Since we saw the Tesla Cybertruck for the first time back in 2019, we knew it would need to undergo major changes before it hit production. However, thanks to a new interview, we know that the Cybertruck will reach consumers as a slightly smaller electric pickup truck.

According to Teslarati, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast,

“we’re no longer iterating at the design center level or design level. We’ve got the designs fixed.”

What will change for the 2022 Tesla Cybertruck?

In 2019, the Tesla Cybertruck debuted as a massive electric truck with a radical angular design. However, one of the most striking components of the truck was its enormous size. According to Roadshow, Tesla’s first electric truck was set to be 231.7 inches (19.3 ft) long, 79.8 inches (6.6 ft) wide, and 75 inches (6.2 ft) tall.

According to Teslarati, Musk stated that the truck would see a three percent reduction in size before it goes into production. Unfortunately, that’s about all we know of the unreleased truck. While we were supposed to see the finished design last year, the images never saw the light of day. However, Musk reportedly stated that the truck’s design has been finalized.

According to Teslarati, Musk reduced the Tesla Cybertruck’s size to fit in the Boring Company’s tunnels. Apparently, the original dimensions did not allow for extra room in the narrow tunnels. However, Tesla likely implemented this change to meet strict vehicle and pedestrian safety regulations.

Will the Cybertruck remain a bulletproof truck?

Since the Tesla Cybertruck’s unveil was a few years ago, here is a quick refresher. The Cybertruck’s party piece is its stainless-steel exoskeleton which as Tesla claims is “nearly impenetranble.” From there you even get armored glass which should withstand strong impacts. Based on the video embedded above, the plan is still to make this a bulletproof truck.

In terms of performance, the Tesla Cybertruck is set to shatter some records if it can deliver. The most powerful tri-motor version boasts a 0-60 mph time of less than 2.9 seconds. Additionally, you’ll reportedly get an estimated electric range of over 500 miles. However, the most appealing feature for truck buyers is the estimated 14,000-lb towing capacity.

For now, all we can do is wait and see if it will deliver on these claims once it officially arrives.

When will this new truck finally arrive?

Speaking of timelines, we’ve got an updated timeframe of when the Tesla Cybertruck will officially arrive. CarBuzz reported in 2019 that the range-topping tri-motor version of the truck would arrive toward the end of 2021.

Thanks to Teslarati, we know that Tesla plans to stay on track with this timeline. Must reportedly said,

“If we get lucky, we’ll be able to do a few deliveries toward the end of this year, but I expect volume production to be in 2022.”
