You can get a 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited for just $6k more than the SR5 trim. This may seem like a good deal–until you take a look at some of the TRD option packages you could purchase instead. At the end of the day, the best way to configure your 2022 Tundra depends on what you’ll be doing with your new truck.

2022 Toyota Tundra SR5 starts at $40,755

The entry-level 2022 Tundra is Toyota’s SR trim level. But the SR5 offers several key performance and visual upgrades. Firstly, the Tundra SR5’s 3.4-liter V6 makes 40 more horsepower than the SR’s, for a total of 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. This bumps the truck’s tow rating from 8,300 pounds to 12,000. To top it off, the SR5 comes with a Class IV towing hitch already installed.

In addition, the SR5 benefits from 18-inch silver alloy wheels and a body-color grille surround. The SR5’s cabin looks sleeker thanks to gloss-black painted pillars between the doors and windshield.

Toyota offers many upgrades to the SR5 that are not available on the SR. You can get this truck with a blind spot monitoring system, or the TRD Off-Road factory lift kit.

Toyota does offer a lot of value with its Tundra SR5 trim. That said, the 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited only costs $6k more. Firstly, the Toyota Tundra Limited stands out from the SR5 thanks to chrome trim, a chrome grille surround, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The 2022 Tundra Limited also comes with a segment-leading 14-inch infotainment touchscreen. This infotainment system has 9-speakers and is pre-loaded with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Tundra Limited’s seats are power-adjustable 8-way units with lumbar support. Heated and ventilated front seats are a standard part of the trim level. They even offer a memory function based on who is driving the truck. They are also trimmed in SofTex. Finally, a leather-trimmed steering wheel comes standard on the Tundra Limited.

The Tundra Limited also enjoys heated, powered auto-dimming mirrors with built-in turn signals. At this trim level, Toyota includes blind-spot monitoring standard.

Other upgrades to the 2022 Tundra SR5

If you aren’t interested in the chrome trim of the Tundra Limited, there are other ways to upgrade your SR5. These include a couple of option packages loaded with features.

Firstly, you can order your Tundra SR5 with the TRD Sport package. This bumps your rims up to 18-inch alloy units. You also get a TRD Sport bed decal to set your truck apart. Performance modifications include Bilstein shock absorbers and lowered sport suspension. You also get TRD interior features such as a leather shift knob, special engine start button, and aluminum pedals.

Secondly, Toyota is offering a TRD Off-Road package on the SR5 for the first time ever. This package is very similar to the TRD Sport package visually. You get a leather shift knob, aluminum pedals, and a special TRD start button. But the TRD Off-Road truck’s performance upgrades are more oriented for going…well, off-road.

The Tundra SR5 with the TRD Off-Road package includes a factory lift kit with Bilstein shock absorbers. Other upgrades include skid plates and a locking rear differential. The SR5 also gets Toyota’s “Multi-Terrain Select” off-road driver aids. Finally, Toyota fits the TRD Off-Road truck with 18-inch rims wrapped in all-terrain tires.

Best of all, both of these option packages, depending on what other options you choose, cost less than upgrading to the Limited Tundra trim. How you choose to upgrade your Tundra SR5 comes down to what you want to use the truck for.
