The 2022 Volkswagen Talagon Finally Brings the Heat
We’ve been watching Volkswagen SUVs get bigger and faster. We’ve seen the cute little Taos, driven the VW Atlas, but now we’re ready to take the 2022 Volkswagen Talagon for a spin. Check out this massive SUV with even more V6 power.
What we know about the 2022 Volkswagen Talagon
According to Motor1, the 2022 Volkswagen Talagon is the largest MQB-based SUV ever. Wait, what’s MQB? The Volkswagen Group MQB platform is the platform that underpins a variety of vehicles, including compact to mid-size options.
MQB stands for Modularer Querbaukasten and translates from German to Modular Traversal Toolkit. It allows Volkswagen to assemble any vehicles that utilize the platform in each of their factories.
It’s more of a system that allows different engine types and body configurations to coordinate across 11 vehicle brands. Sharing a common engine-mounting core for all drive trains include gas, diesel, hybrid, election, and natural gas saves time and money.
Wait, 11 vehicle brands? Who is in the Volkswagen group? Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bently, Bugatti, Lamborginim Porsche, Ducati, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Scania, and Man. Wow, sorry about that rabbit hole. We will get back to the VW Talagon now.
How much power does the Volkswagen Talagon have?
The 2022 Volkswagen Talagon will have several powertrain options available. But we’re most excited about the turbocharged 2.5-liter V6 engine with 295 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It will be paired with the seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and includes the 4motion all-wheel-drive system.
The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas that we drove for a week had the 3.6-liter V6 engine with 276 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. While it felt incredibly fast and smooth, other reviewers felt that it was slow.
For example, Edmunds mentioned that the VW Atlas delivers a decent amount of power. It took about 8.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. But other than that, it’s smooth, agile, and an excellent option for daily driving.
There is a chance that the VW Talagon will be faster, but this SUV will also be larger. It’s bigger size could weigh it down, so, unfortunately, we will have to wait and see how it performs. We would also like to see the ID.4 and ID.6!!
How are the VW Talagon and Atlas different?
The 2022 Volkswagen Talagon is larger than the Altas. It’s about 202.8-inches long and 78.8-inches wide. It has the same wheelbase length as the Atlas, meaning it should also have a smooth and comfortable ride. The Talagon is larger than the Ford Explorer but smaller than the Chevy Tahoe.
We’re still waiting to learn more about the Talagon. But it’s safe to expect more space in each row for passengers. The third row in the Atlas is reserved for kids around 4’8″ and under. But maybe taller people can fit in the back of the Talagon. It should have more cargo space too.
The interior of the Volkswagen Talagon looks pretty advanced compared to the Atlas. There is a shelf in front of the center console with a few controls. Also, a large cubby sits inside of the center console.
The digital cluster display and infotainment screen look similar in size to the units found in the VW Atlas. Also, the steering wheel looks larger but shares a similar flat-bottom design.
