The 2024 Genesis G70 Offers Best-in-Class Base Horsepower: Here’s Everything We Know So Far

Genesis is hitting on all cylinders right now, so why not up the ante with its cheapest offering. The cheapest new Genesis model just got a little faster, and the 2024 Genesis G70 brings more than just a new engine to the party for the new model year.
With more horsepower, the 2024 Genesis G70 cements its sport sedan status
Until now, the base Genesis G70 featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. That setup was good for 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. And while that powertrain was on par with competition like the BMW 3 Series and Audi A5, but Genesis has never been about maintaining the status quo.
So, the Korean luxury brand opted to drop that anemic four-pot for the 2.5-liter version from the G70’s big brother. That means the smallest, sportiest Genesis sedan now boasts 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque from a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. And as ever, that power fires through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. And if that isn’t enough to convince you of the G70’s sporting credentials, it also get standard Brembo brakes. The only thing it’s missing is a limited-slip differential. But that is an option on its Korean-market cars, so there’s a chance that the U.S.-spec Genesis G70 offers a similar upgrade package in 2024.
Genesis ups the luxury quotient in the new G70
Not all of the 2024 Genesis G70 updates are under the hood, either. You’ll find a host of new premium upholstery options when you go to spec your new compact luxury sedan next year. Two-tone upholstery options include a black/gray and black/beige spec that look great in the photos we’ve seen so far.
In addition to new premium leather choices, Genesis enhances the updated G70 with a frameless rearview mirror, USB-C charging in the back seat, and fresh designs for the door cards and dash.
Korean-market cars also get heated and ventilated seats as standard, though Genesis did not mention specifics regarding seating for the U.S. version. However, the release discussed new multi-function switches, redesigned cupholders and air vents, and even an updated key FOB. In many respects, it feels as though Genesis refined every touchpoint of the G70 without creating an all-new design.
Genesis loses a step with touch-sensitive controls
One thing we’ve lauded Genesis for is its commitment to physical climate control buttons. The touch-sensitive systems in other cars are finicky, at best, and simply more difficult to use while driving. Unfortunately, Genesis has given in with the 2024 Genesis G70. Gone are the tactile buttons, replaced with touch-sensitive controls that, we’re hoping, are at least better than the competition.
New tech in the latest G70 luxury models
Finally, there is a host of new tech coming to the next Genesis G70. An updated version of its Digital Key technology works with NFC on both Apple and Android phones for a completely keyless experience. The system now recognizes driver profiles by device, and adjusts seat, climate, and preferences accordingly. In addition, drivers can now share their digital key access via iMessage, and revoke access at any time in the Genesis app.
Should you wait for the 2024 Genesis G70?
