The original model was released in 1966 and quickly became one of the most recognizable muscle cars of the time. The second generation got a wider design, making it more practical for families and everyday driving. However, the powerful engine options that made it so popular were still available. The Camaro was discontinued in 2002, but Chevrolet brought it back for 2010, much to the delight of the original car’s fans.

4. 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

This Camaro sold for $650,000 at a charity auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Meant to be a reproduction of the original late-’60s Z28 model, this edition’s specs far surpass the original. It comes with bigger tires, better shocks, and an engine capable of 505 hp. It can reach 60 miles per hour in four seconds and has a top speed of 175 miles per hour.

The 2014 Camaro Z/28 performed so well on the race track that multiple sponsors used the vehicle as their official pace car. You can still own one of these cars for a relatively affordable price of $75,000.

3. 2014 Chevrolet Camaro COPO

This car was also up for sale at the Scottsdale auction house in 2014, where it sold for $700,000. The 2014 COPO is not street legal, but this didn’t make it less valuable to bidders. Only a few COPO Camaros are produced each year. Interested buyers must enter a lottery for the opportunity to buy one. Secondhand, the cars sell for $90,000 or more.

The automaker continued this tradition with a new model for the COPO’s 50th anniversary. Built with stock car racing in mind, each one has a 5.7- or 7.0-liter V8 engine capable of reaching 160 miles per hour. It also got an improved suspension and chassis specifically for racing.

2. 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

Collectors are willing to pay big money for the earlier pony cars, as evidenced by this Camaro, which sold for $715,000 in 2015. Like all COPOs, only 69 of these cars exist.

Outfitted with a ZL1 performance package and an all-aluminum engine, the ZL1’s racing features included stronger axles, disc brakes, and a cowl induction hood to help cool down the engine. Drivers could also choose between a four-speed or Hydramatic transmission.

1. 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Penske Trans Am Racer

Previously used by Mark Donahue and his team operator Roger Penske, this former racing car sold for $990,000 at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in 2016. The Z28 edition came with racing features like power brakes and a 4.9-liter V8 engine.

With a top speed of 135 miles per hour, it couldn’t beat racing cars today, but it did a fantastic job in the ’60s. Donahue won almost all of the races in the Trans-Am division in 1968. The Z/28’s powerful performance, along with the popularity of its owners, made this car’s price well-deserved.
