Although SUVs are the top pick among consumers today, some city-dwellers still have a preference for small cars. And while they might not have the cargo and power capabilities of some of the bigger cars on the market, small cars do have their own advantages. In case you’re in the market for a small car, or just like them more than any other, here’s a list of the five smallest cars currently on the market.

Mazda MX-5

Length: 154.1 inches | MSRP: $25,730

Some say that “the answer is always Miata,” and while that might be true when it comes to small-car, track-friendly fun, it’s just one of the answers on this list. Not only is the Miata easy to park, but it’s easy to drive fast or slow in city surroundings. However, if you take it out to a canyon and throw it into a few corners, you’ll see very quickly why most people want the answer to be Miata.

Mini Cooper Hardtop

Length: 151 inches | MSRP: $21,900

Mini has been around in the U.S. for the past couple of decades and the Cooper Hardtop is their bread and butter. They do have a four-door version as well and if you need something bigger, there’s also the Countryman. However, for those looking for the smallest of the bunch so they can zip around town and park in small places, the two-door Cooper will fit the bill.

Mitsubishi Mirage

Length: 149.4 inches | MSRP: $13,795

Due to its cheap materials, anemic engine, and lack of safety features compared to others, the Mirage is not our favorite car on this list. However, it is very small and very affordable. Measuring in at only 149 inches, you can pretty much park the Mirage anywhere you want to. You most likely won’t have to worry about it getting stolen either, no matter how questionable your surroundings are.

Chevrolet Spark

Length: 143.1 inches | MSRP: $13,220

Chevy’s smallest offering might be minuscule in size, but it’s big on interior room. It’s able to fit four adults somewhat comfortably and have everyone arrive safely. In addition to parking sensors and a backup camera, the Spark features a tight turning radius and minimal steering effort, which complements it’s tiny size when it comes to motoring around a dense city population. There’s no worry when it comes to parking this car, as 143 inches is small enough to fit in the tightest of places.

Fiat 500

Length: 139.6 inches | MSRP: $16,245

Style and size are the names of the game when it comes to the Fiat 500. At only 139 inches, this Fiat will be able to fit anywhere you need it to in the city. And in case you need to leave the city, the Fiat 500 provides a comfortable ride with a decent amount of interior room as well. Don’t count on too much cargo space, though, as the cargo volume measures in at 30 cubic feet. However, if you need a city car that can get you from point A to B in style, then this is a great choice.

Pint-sized fun

Small cars are not only utilitarian in the sense that they can be parked anywhere, are fuel-efficient, and budget-friendly, but they are extremely fun to drive. If space is an issue where you live and don’t need all the family-hauling, cargo-carrying, off-road needs of an SUV, then one of these five cars should do the trick.
