The Best 4Runner Years For Toyota Used Model
Are you looking to save with a used 4Runner instead of buying the newer models? It’s a great way to get the Toyota 4Runner capabilities you need without completely emptying your pockets. Here is a list of some of the best Toyota 4Runner years, so you know which toyota 4runner years to avoid.
1.) 1984 to 2002 Toyota 4Runner models
According to Autotrader, you can find a variety of Toyota 4Runners on the road today for around $5,000 between the years 1984 to 2002. This makes it incredibly easy to get in an SUV with a V6 equipped for off-roading for a bit of money.
These Toyota 4Runner models may seem ancient, but they provide great value. These SUVs are highly reliable and are predicted to last over 300k miles. The resale value is also a great perk.
The second-generation Toyota 4Runner from 1900 to 1995 has a unique two-door design to show off, but model years between 1984 and 1989 have a removable top. It all comes down to what you value the most in a vehicle.
2.) 2003 to 2009 Toyota 4Runner
You’ll get a little extra power if you can swing around $10,000. This is the only 4Runner generation that comes with a V8.
In 2003 and 2004, the 4Runner came with an engine that provided 235 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque.
Then in 2005, the Toyota 4Runner received a powerful upgrade to produce 268 hp and 297 lb-ft of torque.
Just be sure to get an option with 4×4 to use that extra power for some off-roading fun. If it’s a little too much, you can save with a V6 option from this era as well.
3.) 2010 to 2013 models
If you have around $20,000 to spend on a used Toyota 4Runner, you can get some off-roading upgrades that came out with the fifth-generation model from 2010 to 2013.
This generation went back to a V6 engine. However, two-wheel-drive versions from these model years are pretty underpowered.
The SR5, Limited, and Trail trim options offer beefy off-roading features, including a rear locking electronic differential, crawl control, terrain modes, and a Kinetic Dynamic Suspension system.
The KDSS allows the sway bars to disconnect once it senses uneven terrain automatically.
4.) 2014 to 2017 models
Here is when things start to get a little expensive. For 2014 to 2017 Toyota 4Runner Models, you may spend around $30,000. However, this is still much cheaper than newer models.
This edition offers the more modern unique styling that consumers are used to seeing on the roads and the TRD Pro trim.
The Trail option was available until 2016. Also, it’s important to note that this generation is where the Toyota 4Runner gained a more luxurious feel.
These models have optional full-time and part-time four-wheel drive to suit your personal needs and budget.
Anything after 2017 raises the price to around $40,000, including the newer 2020 Toyota 4Runner off-roading TRD Pro trim.
There haven’t been any notable upgrades to make the 2020 Toyota 4Runner better than the 2017 to 2019 models. We highly suggest saving with a used option based on which features best fit your price range and needs.
