The Biggest Changes Coming to Volkswagen’s Best-Selling Model
VW’s best selling model, the Volkswagen Tiguan, is getting an update and it appears we can expect some exciting changes.
The Tiguan has been a wildly successful vehicle for the brand. This spring it surpassed production of six million units, making the Tiguan the best-selling car in the Volkswagen brand and Group. It is available for sale in 80 percent of countries in the world and is the most successful SUV on the market in Europe.
Volkswagen is preparing to launch the refreshed 2021 Tiguan later in the year. We can expect new front and rear styling, a redesigned interior, and new powertrains.
The Biggest Changes Coming to the Volkswagen Tiguan
The German automaker has only hinted at what the final look will be with this sketch of the Tiguan. Roadshow recently spoke to Dr. Hendrik Muth, head of product marketing for the Volkswagen brand, who said the new front end for the upcoming Tiguan will be “a little bit less horizontal” than before.
Some of the most significant changes we expect to see will involve technical and visual updates. Revised front and rear fascias that give a more muscular appearance. Updates will include:

New assistance systems such as Travel Assist
Updated infotainment system.
The Tiguan will receive an infotainment system update, closely mirroring the 8th generation Golf, to the brand’s MIB III system.
A new plug-in hybrid drivetrain for Europe.
The European versions will see a powertrain upgrade. The North American models, however, will retain the existing powertrain version.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is currently manufactured almost around-the-clock with production at four plants, in different time zones. The four Volkswagen plants located in Wolfsburg, Germany, Kaluga- 104 miles south-west of Moscow, Shanghai, and in the Mexican city of Puebla produce this small SUV in some pretty big numbers.
Europe will receive the new Tiguan first. Preorders in the U.S. will open in the summer with delivery expected in late 2020.
