People often see the teardrop camper as the perfect solution to their camping needs. In some cases, that’s true, but these types of campers aren’t for everyone.

What draws people to teardrop campers?

Many people love the fact that these campers are smaller and lightweight. You don’t have to have a heavy-duty pickup to haul them around. You don’t have to spend more money to upgrade to a heavy-hauling vehicle to hook it up to either. In fact, you can use a small car to pull a teardrop camper down the road to your destination. 

Another positive benefit that these campers offer is its simplicity. If you just need a place to sleep with a few extra amenities, then a teardrop camper provides it for you without all the stuff you don’t really want. 

You can also customize a teardrop camper to suit your tastes or your needs. If you want a color scheme to match the accents or body color on your vehicle, you can easily achieve that with this type of camper. You can also find one that has more than one bed if you require it. 

Why these campers are not worth it

Despite the pros a teardrop camper offers, there are as many if not more reasons that buying one is just not worth it. One of the reasons Camper Report gives is the fact that it’s not very spacious.

Despite the different sizes teardrop campers come in, there just isn’t a whole lot of room to do much in. While this problem might seem obvious, it is still something you need to consider.

Weather can affect your experience as well. If it happens to be pouring rain outside, you will need to find a space to get out of it. The small camper won’t have much room if there are more than two of you.

Then you’ll have to sit in the car while you wait. Freezing cold weather won’t help either. You’ll be forced to stay inside the cramped camper or in the car. 

Where do teardrop campers stand in terms of value? 

You would think these campers would be inexpensive because of its size. But that’s not always the case. Teardrops aren’t built in mass quantities, so prices can get pretty high, especially if it’s one of the top of the line ones. 

Camper Report says that some of these can go from $20,000 to as high as $60,000. That’s very high for something that really only gives you a bed to sleep in. Other types of campers can run as high as the teardrops, but they offer more space, and some even come with a bathroom and a kitchen.

You might get lucky and find a used one for a cheaper price, but you could be looking for quite some time to find one. According to Camper Report, most will get snapped up quickly, or will just go for a price that’s close to what you’d pay for a brand-new one. If you can, you could try renting one to try it out before buying. 

If you’re in the market for a teardrop camper, be sure it’s what you really need before shelling out a ton of money for one. It might be better if you passed on the teardrop and spend your money on a smaller RV trailer that has more space and amenities instead.
