Mercedes-Benz’s devotion to craftship and sophisticated performance is why the automaker still reigns as the epitome of luxury. As time has gone on, our affection for the Benz lineup has only deepened. Not just because of the car brand’s high-performing options but for its focus on modern technology as well. To see just how digital Mercedes-Benz has become, look no further than the 2021 S-Class. 

How Mercedes stepped up its infotainment

So, there is great infotainment technology, and then there is Mercedes’ which deserves to be in a class all its own. In 2018, the German automaker first introduced its MBUX infotainment system, its 2019 A-Class sedan. This system earned high marks for its ability to respond to commands, similar to that of Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. All a driver has to do is say “Hey Mercedes” to complete a variety of tasks, from playing music to adjusting the driver’s seat.  For 2021, Mercedes has made its infotainment setup even grander for the new S-Class.

The 2021 S-Class is packed with luxurious tech

Mercedes’ S-Class will be the first to introduce the second-generation MBUX infotainment system. Its voice assistant feature is supposed to respond to even more commands to help you answer phone calls or even locate items in the car itself. Plus, it’s now accessible in 27 languages. 

With the new MBUX system, a driver can utter “I’m tired” and that will initiate an “energizing” control to wake the driver up. Passengers can even ask the voice assistance questions about animal sounds. New advanced safety features such as exit warning are also supported now 

The other  big news here is that the new S-Class will be packed with more screens, it’s almost overwhelming. The S-Class can be equipped with up to five different screens. There will be a new 12.8-inch infotainment display screen that replaces the traditional knobs. The infotainment display will combine a fingerprint scanner and voice recognition for security and there will be a facial recognition feature too. 

3D technology and more screens 

Then there is the S-Class’s new driver display area which will consist of a 3D LCD screen. Mercedes says it will adjust based on the driver’s head position and give a real-time 3D effect without actually wearing 3D glasses. This sounds really cool, but drivers will also have the option to turn this feature off.

There will also be three infotainment screens available in the back row of the S-Class.  This means that one passenger in the back can watch a movie while the other listens to an audio book. All passengers will have the ability to share media content with each other through these screens and even pull up their own navigation. 

These capabilities show that Mercedes has prioritized personalization features above all else. There can be up to seven profile setups in the S-Class which can be saved in the Cloud. Personalized radio stations and other settings can be saved too. We expect the new S-Class to be available this September .
