Small trucks are awesome vehicles for a lot of reasons. They give you the capability and versatility of a truck, along with the affordability of a smaller vehicle. CarFax recently took a look at some of the cheapest small trucks, and we’ve picked out three of the best choices, the Chevy Colorado, the GMC Canyon, and the Ford Ranger. What are some of the pros and cons of these small pickups according to CarFax?

The 2020 Ford Ranger has plenty of power

Even though this is one of the cheapest small trucks, the 2020 Ford Ranger has lots of power and features. It has a standard 270-horsepower engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the Ranger has a 7,500-pound tow rating, plus a 1,860-pound payload rating which is the best in its class. 

The 2020 Ford Ranger has an MSRP of $24,410, with a strong list of standard features. There are more standard technology features and driver-assist features on the Ranger than the others on the list.

These include confidence-building features like lane-keeping assist, blind spot information system, cross-traffic alert, pre-collision assist with emergency braking, and a rearview camera. 

The 2020 GMC Canyon is a solid choice

Powered by a 200-horsepower engine, the rear-wheel drive 2020 GMC Canyon is another very affordable small truck. The Canyon starts at $29,100 and has some innovative features you don’t see on other trucks at this price. One of these is the CornerStep rear bumper, making accessing the truck bed easier.

Inside, there’s a spacious interior with modern technology features. An HD rear camera is standard, and there is available Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 8 inch GMC touchscreen infotainment system. 

For the price, the Canyon has a premium interior, however, most of the amenities are not standard. There are available heated driver and passenger front seats, an available soft-touch instrument panel, and an available heated steering wheel. GMC has worked hard to reduce noise in the cabin, adding innovations like triple door seals to block unwanted noise. 

The 2020 Chevy Colorado is the cheapest small truck

With an MSRP of $21,300, the 2020 Chevy Colorado is the cheapest small truck out there. That doesn’t mean that it skimps on features. The Colorado has a 4-cylinder, 200-horsepower engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that is actually the sister vehicle to the GMC Canyon. It offers plenty of towing power, with an available maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds. 

For 2020, the Colorado gets an updated infotainment system that keeps drivers in touch with their worlds no matter where they are. This cheap small truck now has available wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

You can also turn your truck into a streaming station with an available Wi-Fi hotspot. It’s a great choice for the job site, where you get a lot of capability and technology for the price. 

The 2020 Chevy Colorado has three different engines to choose from. There’s the base 4-cylinder engine that offers both power and efficiency, and also an available 3.6-liter V6 engine, and an available 6.2-liter Duramax 2.8-liter diesel engine that offers best-in-class towing capacity. 

The CarFax reviews of the cheapest small trucks reveal that there are plenty of great small trucks out there at affordable prices. Other small trucks that made the list include the 2020 Toyota Tacoma, the 2020 Nissan Frontier, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, and the 2020 Honda Ridgeline.

However, the Ford Ranger, the GMC Canyon, and the Chevy Colorado top the list of the cheapest small trucks you can buy.
