The Chevy Blazer RS Fills the SUV Need for Speed
Vroom, vrooooooooom! Hit the gas! The Chevy Blazer RS is here to blaze a new path filled with speed and power on the roadways. While it may not be the traditional off-roading that it used to be, the 2020 Chevy Blazer RS packs Camaro power that’s fun to drive.
Is the Chevy Blazer a Good SUV?
Yes, the Chevy Blazer is a good SUV, but it’s misunderstood. Chevy fans wanted the classic K5 Blazer that was replaced by the Chevy Tahoe. However, with a limited need for off-roaders, Chevrolet built a faster, sportier SUV to make daily driving a lot more fun.
The new Chevy Blazer starts around $28k, putting it on par with the Ford Edge ST and Jeep Grand Cherokee. But for an increase of power, you can upgrade to the Chevy Blazer RS for about $49k. Then you’ll be well equipped to race around town.
Chevy Blazer RS Power
Under the hood of the 2020 Chevy Blazer RS, you’ll find a 3.6-liter V6 engine that pumps out 308 horsepower and 270m lb-ft of torque. The Blazer can tow up to 4,500 lb, making it pretty capable.
When tested, the Chevy Blazer RS was able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, and it ran a quarter-mile in 14.7 seconds at 95 mph. That’s one fast SUV.

The Chevy Blazer RS managed to outpace the Ford Edge ST by 2.1 seconds. Even though the Ford Edge ST has more horsepower and torque, it’s about 300 pounds heavier, causing it to lag.
The Blazer is noted for having a shorter ride height and excellent handling, which makes sense because it’s a Camaro on a larger platform.
The Chevy Blazer RS has a 7-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth shifts. It’s available in all-wheel-drive to handle ice and snow as well. While its low ride height may negatively impact off-roading abilities, it will handle gravel roads just fine.
Chevy Blazer RS features
The Chevy Blazer borrows cabin materials from the Camaro to provide a race car feel in a larger SUV. It’s praised for having a tall roof and plenty of space for taller drivers and passengers. The back seat is spacious too.
In the trunk area, there are 34 cubic feet of cargo space. You can access up to 64 cubic feet once the seats are folded flat. The rear bench seat easily slides forward and back, making it easy to load up toddlers. Some say the Chevy Blazer RS is the perfect SUV for dogs too.
The interior is comfortable and packed with tech. There is an 8” infotainment center that can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are plenty of USB ports for each row and a 120-Volt outlet in the second row.
The Chevy Blazer RS includes multiple standard safety features such as emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and more. It’s a fun and capable SUV that shouldn’t be written off just because it shed its boxy shape and off-roading focus. It’s like a larger, more family-friendly, and more capable Chevy Camaro.
