As a result, it won’t shock you to learn that the mid-engined sports-car is already a best seller. According to CarBuzz, the C8 outsold both the Porsche 911 and the Mercedes-AMG GT during the fourth quarter of 2020.
How many Chevy Corvette C8’s sold in Q4 2020?
2020 was a fairly successful year for the Chevy Corvette C8. According to CarSalesBase, 21,626 Corvette models found homes in 2020. However, it is worth noting that this figure likely includes some leftover C7 models. According to CarBuzz, Chevy managed to sell 8,992 Corvettes in the fourth quarter of 2020 alone. This marks a massive increase over the 3,491 units sold during the same time period in 2019.
In fact, the Chevy Corvette had hit a bit of a slump in recent years. For example, in 2014, CarSalesBase reports that 34,839 units of the sports car found new homes. In contrast, that number dwindled significantly down to 17,988 in 2019. As a result, the brand-new mid-engined model’s introduction gave the model enough of a refresh to begin climbing back up in terms of sales figures. So much so that CarBuzz reports that the C8 has managed to outsell established competition from Porsche and Mercedes-AMG.
How many units did its competitors sell?
While the Chevy Corvette C8 managed to excel during a global pandemic, so have a few models from Porsche. According to CarBuzz, 2,438 units of the Porsche 911 found new homes in the fourth quarter of 2020. This represents only a small portion of the C8’s sales figures during the same time period. However, it is worth noting that the C8 has a base price of $59,995. In contrast, a brand-new 911 starts at just shy of $100,000.
If we look at another model closer in price to the Chevy Corvette C8, there is the Porsche 718 lineup. This includes both the Boxster and the Cayman. The important figure here is that just $1,000 separates these models from the Chevy. Despite this, just 1,491 examples of the Porsche models found new homes, not coming close to the C8’s numbers.
Another main competitor for the Chevy Corvette C8 comes from the folks over at Mercedes-AMG in terms of performance. The model in question is the GT. CarBuzz reports that during the final quarter of 2020, just 924 examples of the GT found new homes. While the GT’s $84,900 MSRP is closer to the Chevy’s, it is still significantly more expensive.
When will the 2021 model arrive?
Despite many unfortunate production setbacks, the 2021 Chevy Corvette C8 is on the way. According to CarBuzz, the first 2021 customer car was delivered last week at the National Corvette Museum. Given the stellar sales performance, even with the setbacks, the C8 will likely sell in even higher numbers during 2021.
Additionally, more powerful versions of the Chevy Corvette C8 are on the way. As of writing, the eventual Corvette Z06 seems like it will be a true supercar killer. Rumors suggest that it will have a flat-plane-crank V8 with at least 650 hp. In terms of price, the rumored starting price might hover around the $85,000 mark.
