One of the great things about buying a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is that there are a lot of options to choose from. The Chevy Silverado 1500 has eight trims, several package options, five powertrains, and three bed length options. There are also two special editions: the Rally Edition and the Midnight Edition.

These two special editions weren’t available in the 2019 model year but returned with the 2020 Chevy Silverado. The Rally Edition doesn’t really provide buyers many extras, though, so here’s a look at what the two special editions do include.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado

Car and Driver points out that while the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado isn’t as luxurious as the Ram 1500, it still offers plenty of comfort, tech, and capability. It can tow up to 13,400 pounds and haul more than 2,000 pounds when properly equipped. The 2020 Silverado’s five engine options include a turbocharged four-cylinder, a V6, two V8 engines, as well as a diesel inline-six.

The standard trims come in eight exterior colors: Black, Red Hot, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Havana Brown Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic, Northsky Blue Metallic, and Shadow Gray Metallic. Buyers looking for something a little different from the usual trims might consider the Rally Edition and the Midnight Edition.

The Chevrolet Silverado Rally Edition

The Chevy Silverado Rally Edition really just has a slightly different appearance. Mainly it’s just black accents that are intended to be “street inspired.” It has a body-colored grille and black rally stripes on the hood and tailgate. It also has black badging, a black bowtie emblem, and black tailgate lettering. Other black accents include black assist steps and a black exhaust tip or tips. It’s available with four body color options: Black, Red Hot, Silver Ice Metallic, and Summit White.

The Rally Edition is available in two trim levels: Custom and RST. The Silverado Custom Rally Edition has 20-inch wheels while the Silverado RST Rally Edition has 22-inch wheels. Both wheel sizes are painted black.

The Custom Rally Edition has a 2.7-liter turbo engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The RST Rally Edition offers three engines, the 2.7-liter engine, a 5.3-liter V8 engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission, or a 6.2-liter V8 engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The three engines have different capabilities. The 2.7-liter turbo is able to tow up to 6,800 pounds and haul 2,070 pounds. The 5.3-liter V8 can tow 11,600 pounds and haul 2,190 pounds, while the 6.2-liter V8 is able to tow 13,400 pounds and haul 2,090 pounds.

The Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition

The Midnight Edition of the Chevy Silverado is designed for off-road driving, so it does include a few more variations from the standard Silverado. Its features include a suspension lifted by two inches plus the Z71 Off-Road package.

This special edition is available on the LT Trail Boss trim. It has 18-inch wheels painted black and Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires. Other off-road features are its Rancho mono-tube off-road shocks, an automatic locking rear differential, and skid plates. The Silverado LT Trail Boss Midnight Edition includes only the 6.2-liter V8 engine with 10-speed automatic transmission.

And, of course, the Midnight Edition has black design accents and black paint in keeping with its name. It features black on the badging, grill, Chevy bowtie emblems, bumpers, exhaust tips, and assist steps. To stand out, it also has red recovery hooks. The LT Trail Boss Midnight Edition includes high-intensity LED headlamps, which are usually optional on the LT Trail Boss trim.

While the special edition trims offer buyers 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500s with a “special” look, they don’t provide many additional features. The Midnight Edition does include standard upgraded headlights, but the Rally Edition on both the Custom and RST trims mainly just offers black accents.
