Somehow, the best that is the Chevy Suburban isn’t strong enough yet, because Chevrolet is making the new Suburban even stronger. Chevy is hoping that the Suburban continues to be an adventurous and capable SUV for families and the military. 

The Chevy Suburban HD might come back

According to MotorTrend, after 85 years of its existence, the Chevy Suburban will get even stronger. Chevrolet has confirmed that it is looking to adapt the all-new Suburban for military and government use. 

The Chevy Suburban has helped people face various cargo challenges in civilian and government applications and will continue adapting to fit a variety of growing needs. To do so, the Chevy Suburban HD could make its return. 

However, the new Chevrolet Suburban HD may not be available for civilian use. It could be a unique variant intended for fleets and military service. The original Heavy Duty Suburban was only offered to fleets before being discontinued. 

This is because the regular Suburban is already extremely powerful for families. Not many people needed the extra power, including a 6.0-liter V8 engine, extra payload capacity, more rugged frame, and upgraded brakes. But perhaps fire crews, military squads, and more could make use of the more robust version. 

Would a Heavy Duty Suburban be easy to build? 

Yes, it wouldn’t take much to transform the SUV into an HD variant. The Chevrolet and GMC full-size truck frames could be crafted into an architecture that works as a heavy-duty platform for other vehicles. 

GM just released the Infantry Squad Vehicle that’s based on the mid-size Chevy Colorado platform. So, how much work would it take to go bigger with the Suburban? A full-size truck could also be on the infantry list, so it’s not too wild of an idea to consider the Chevy Suburban HD. However, this is just a hunch. 

How strong is the 2021 Chevy Suburban?

Do we need a Heavy Duty Chevy Suburban, or will the 2021 model do the trick? It’s always been great for towing. According to Edmunds, when equipped with the 5.3-liter V8 engine, the 2021 Chevy Suburban can tow up to 8,300 lb. 

Towing numbers for the diesel engine haven’t been released, but Edmunds expects it to tow over 9,000 lb. Also, the Suburban can carry a payload of 8,300 lb. This is pretty good, but the Chevy Silverado HD can tow up to 14,500 lb. 

The 2021 Chevy Suburban is also big. The wheelbase got 4.1-inches longer, creating more space. You can access up to 141 cubic feet of cargo capacity. This is an increase of 23 cubic feet over the 2020 model. If you need even more cargo capacity, then check out the 2021 GMC Yukon XL. 

Not only does the Chevy Suburban have 4×4 drive, but now it has a new independent rear suspension and an available air-spring suspension with active dampeners. This means that the Suburban can go off-roading but still provides a smooth, comfortable, and quiet ride. 

Of course, because this beast is so massive, it handles that way. But with tech features like an improved trailer camera, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree surround-view system, and more, maneuvering the Suburban is made easy.
