The Chevy Colorado is one of the best trucks in America. But in Thailand, Chevy’s doing something completely different with the Colorado. A specially-made for Thailand Chevy Colorado RS Limited Edition was recently unveiled, and only 200 of these trucks will be made, all for Thai customers.

What’s different about the Chevy Colorado RS Limited Edition? 

Many things are different between the Colorado in America and the Colorado RS in Thailand. Like any vehicle that’s designed for a specific market though, the Colorado RS will have features that make sense in Thailand that doesn’t necessarily make sense in America. 

For example, in terms of engines, the Colorado in America has several options. Customers in America can choose between a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine, a 2.8-liter diesel engine, or a 3.6-liter V6 gas engine. Each of these options has pros and cons in terms of horsepower and torque, but the Colorado RS only has one engine option, according to Motor1. 

That engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. It gets 163-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the American engine options, it gets less horsepower but more torque than most of the American engines available on the Colorado. This 2.5-liter diesel engine gives the Colorado RS a good amount of practicality without costing too much.

Rebellious styling

However, as GM Authority said, the most noticeable difference between the Colorado in America and the Colorado RS is everything style-related. GM Authority called the Colorado RS’s looks as rebellious, which, in the context of how Colorados usually look, is true. 

The two most notable design changes are in the color scheme and in its lower stance. In terms of its color scheme, owners of the Colorado RS will get to choose between two colors of paint. The hood, roof, and tailgate will all be painted in one color, while the rest of the exterior will be painted in another color. This two-tone style of paint job may not seem appealing to many Americans, but the Colorado RS is exclusive to Thailand for many reasons. 

The low stance of the Colorado RS is also a deliberate reference to the truck culture of Thailand. According to GM Authority, Thais love to customize their trucks for street and personal use, and so many trucks will have a low stance as well as other modifications.

Chevy’s also outfitted the Colorado RS Limited Edition with other small changes to make it look more rebellious. Some of these changes include a small nudge bar in the front and the removal of the truck’s rear bumper. 

Americans probably won’t miss this Chevy truck

Although only 200 Colorado RSs will be made, American customers and Chevy lovers probably won’t care too much about the Colorado RS. The truck was made for Thailand, and although it’s a good, affordable truck, it doesn’t do much that the Colorado in America can’t do.

The performance figures of the Colorado RS aren’t known, but with only 163-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, an American Colorado with its diesel engine will probably get better performance numbers.

And while the Colorado RS is affordable, it’s not a cheap truck by any means. Motor1 says that the Colorado RS will start at about $22,000. That’s cheaper than a Colorado that’s sold in America, but not by much. On top of that, while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, a two-tone paint job isn’t something that’s hard to get on a truck if you really want it.

So, while the Colorado RS seems like a great truck for Thailand, that’s probably exactly what Americans will think of it. A truck for Thailand.
