The Electric Chevy BET Truck is Coming Faster Than You Think
The electric Chevy BET truck may be on the way to compete against the Ford F-150 EV. However, we may see a plug-in Chevy Silverado first, which would compete against the Ford F-150 Hybrid. Either way, Chevy has electrifying plans in the works.
The Chevy plug-in truck is coming
According to AutoBlog, General Motors has abandoned its fight against California lawmakers to focus on electrifying a new truck. General Motors CEO, Mary Barra, will provide the opening keynote address at the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which will be held online. Also, Chevy will provide a peek at its new electric truck at the event.
However, the truck is described as a plug-in model that is similar to the Chevy Silverado. This raises a little confusion. Plug-in vehicles is an umbrella term referring to vehicles like the Electric Chevy Bolt or the plug-in Jeep Wrangler 4xe Hybrid.
Basically, a plug-in vehicle may not refer to an all-electric vehicle. But it has been assumed that the new Chevrolet truck will be electric, but it could have a hybrid powertrain or a gasoline-powered range extender instead.
What do we know about the electric Chevy truck?
Earlier in 2020, Chevy showed an answer to the Ford F-150 EV in a marketing presentation. The truck was only shown as a teaser. It was unnamed and wasn’t fully revealed. But it had one heck of a futuristic look.
The front end is lower and more rounded than the face of the Silverado. Also, it’s accented by a grille insert that provides a 3D element to the futuristic look. The bowtie is on a horizontal strip of trim with thin headlights on both sides.
The mystery Chevy has wheel arches that stick out, showing a rugged, off-roading look. It could be a cheaper alternative to the expensive GMC Hummer EV. If it shares parts with the Electric Hummer, then it could offer up to 400 miles of driving range. It’s safe to expect a body-on-frame build, too, with two or three electric motors and Ultium battery technology.
If Chevy reveals a fully electric truck, then it could be the Chevy BET (Battery Electric Truck). It will be the first truck with all-electric propulsion to wear the Chevrolet bowtie. It will ride on a platform named the BT1, which is named after the architecture of the Silverado platform.
When will we learn more about the Chevy BET?
Well, we will learn something at the CES show, which begins on Monday, January 11, and ends on Thursday, January 14. You have to register to attend the event online.
But we’re sure the reveal of the Chevy plug-in truck will quickly spread across the internet. We will be standing by to report on it. So, we will learn more in about two weeks!
If the Chevrolet BET does have a 400-mile range, it could beat the 2022 Ford F-150 EV. Currently, the F-150 EV is only expected to top a 300-mile range with the use of dual motors. But the specs haven’t been released yet.
The 2021 ford F-150 PowerBoost electric hybrid powertrain is what we have to look at for now. It has a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and an integrated 35-kW electric motor.
