The Electric Chevy Silverado Challenges Ford F-150 EV
Has anyone checked on the 2022 Ford F-150 EV? Because the Electric Chevy Silverado is coming to challenge it. The Electric Chevy could be here before we know it, bringing a real shock factor to the classic Ford vs. Chevrolet battle.
The 2022 Electric Chevy Silverado is on the way
According to Car and Driver, the Electric Chevy Silverado is on the way. It’s rumored to have up to 400 miles of range and should enter production for 2022. The 2022 Ford F-150 EV is expected to hit the market during the first quarter of 2022.
This may create a good old-fashioned truck race to see who can pump out the electric trucks first. But Ford may have some work to do. According to InsideEVs, the Ford F-150 EV is expected to have more range than the Mustang Mach-E, and anything under 300 miles would be disappointing. But no information has been revealed about its power yet.
The Chevy Silverado EV provides options
We are still waiting to learn more about the Electric Chevy Silverado, but we do know it will be offered with a few different versions. There will be work truck options for fleets and beefed-up retail versions.
There could be multiple powertrain options as well. Like the Hummer EV truck, there could be different battery pack sizes with three different motor drivetrains. The Ultimum battery packs offer up to a 200-kWh capacity.
Like the Ford F-150 EV, the Electric Chevy might not look too different. The shape and size of the truck will remain the same. But it will gain a port for charging, of course. Both the F-150 and Silverado will have revised front facias and may have interior upgrades as well with pops of colors to create an electric truck vibe.
There is a video of the Electric Ford F-150 towing a train claiming that it can pull over one million pounds. But not everyone was sold on this accomplishment. Towing on rails is a lot different than towing on the pavement.
The math and physics involved are provided by InsideEVs. We don’t know how much horsepower or torque these full-size electric trucks will offer yet. Also, the Chevy Silverado EV hasn’t made any towing claims. Currently, the gas-powered 2021 Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs, while the 2021 Chevy Silverado can only tow up to 13,400 lbs.
What else do we know about the Chevy Silverado BET?
Well, for starters, it’s helpful to get the lingo down as more auto manufacturers move toward electric vehicles. BET means Battery Electric Truck. The Electric Chevy Silverado will be manufactured at Factory Zero.
General Motors recently renamed the Detroit-Hamtramck to Factory Zero because the factory has been remodeled to entirely focus on producing electric vehicles that have zero emissions.
This is where the GMC Hummer EV truck and Hummer EV SUV will be built as well. GM plans to offer about 30 electric vehicles by the end of 2025 and to be emission-free by 2035.
Pricing for the Chevy Silverado EV is unknown. The 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 begins at about $28,900, and the Hybrid Ford F-150 starts at around $4,495 more than the gas-powered trim levels. There’s no telling how much the electric versions will raise costs yet.
