The Electric Ram 1500 Truck is Late to the Party

We were just talking about how the Ram 1500 TRX has a terrible fuel economy with an EPA estimated 12 mpg. I guess this made Ram realize that they are behind on the trend of going electric because the Ram 1500 Electric truck is coming.

The Ram 1500 Electric truck is on the way

Ram is finally getting with the program after the Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Electric, GMC Hummer EV, and Lordstown Endurance are all-electric pickup trucks that are on the way.

Now the Ram 1500 EV is finally on the way. Ram has been seriously lagging behind rivals in terms of electric vehicles. In fact, it takes months to bring new EV trucks into production. According to Electrek, Ram is so far behind that they plan to pay Tesla up to $2 billion to avoid European penalties related to reducing fleet emissions.

Fiat Chrysler Auto (FCA) didn’t seem too interested in electric trucks earlier in the year, but now they see a place for the electrified Ram 1500 in the marketplace.

But they also suggested that we stay tuned because they aren’t sure exactly when that will happen. Eletrek possibly thinks it could be 2023 to 2024 before it arrives.

What to expect with the Ram 1500 EV

We aren’t sure if the electric Ram truck will be a 1500 model or not. Based on rumors, it just makes the most sense. Also, no details about the Ram electric truck have been revealed yet. All we know is that one is coming.

To compete against rivals, the Electric Ram 1500 will need to have two or three motors with four-wheel drive. It will need at least 1,000 hp and the ability to tow about 13,000 lb as well. This could mean that Ram has a lot of work cut out for themselves.

While the electric Ford F-150 is a work truck, the Telesa Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV are loaded with off-roading features. So, it will be interesting to see which route Ram chooses for its model.

Also, while the Telsa Cybertruck has a wild look, the Ford F-150 EV currently has a more reserved design. The Ram 1500 EV could look futuristic like the Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV, or it could follow in Ford’s footsteps.

FCA Electric Vehicles

FCA first entered the electric vehicle market with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. Also, Jeep said they would offer hybrid versions for each model by 2022. This means that the Jeep Gladiator Hybrid truck or Gladiator EV could arrive before the Electric Ram 1500

Based on the Jeep Wrangler 4xe being a serious off-roader, perhaps the Ram 1500 EV will be as well. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe offers 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, which isn’t enough power for an electric truck.

It also has an EPA estimated 25 miles of all-electric range and 50 MPGe. The Electric Ram will need to have a range of at least 350 miles on a single charge to compete with rivals. Also, instead of having solid Dana 44 axles, the off-roading equipment in the Ram 1500 EV will probably be closer to the Ram 1500 TRX.
