Ford has been teasing us with lower-priced trucks. The Ford Maverick made it seem like perhaps the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning would have a low starting price too. This is true unless you want the extended range Ford F-150 Lightning model. The extra mileage comes with a massive price. 

How much is the Extended Range Ford F-150 Lightning? 

According to Motor Trend, each 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning come with a standard dual-motor all-wheel drive system. It’s good for 426 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. But this setup is paired with the 98-kWh Standard Range battery that provides an estimated 230 miles of range. 

The base model or the ford F-150 Lightning Pro has an MSRP of $39,974. It’s only available with the Standard Range battery. But with the Lightning XLT and Lightning Lariat trims, you can upgrade to the Extended Range battery. The extended range setup also comes with the Platinum trim. 

With the Ford F-150 Extend Range Battery, you get 563 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. You also get an estimated 300 miles of range with the XLT and Lariat trims, but only 280 miles with the Platinum model. 

So, the F-150 Lightning XLT starts at $54,669 with the standard battery. Upgrading to the Extended Range battery adds $19,500 to the price. That’s only a few hundred less than the Ford Maverick to gain about 70 extra miles per charge. 

The cheapest Extended Range Ford F-150 Lightning model starts at $74,169, which is more than the Rivian R1T. The Rivan R1T starts at $67,000 and offers about 314 miles of range. The Max Pack for $10,000 adds even more range, but the official numbers haven’t been specified. 

Why is the F-150 Lightning Extend Range so expensive? 

The Extended Range Ford F-150 Lightning bundles in a few extra options. While Ford lists the battery upgrade for $10,00, it’s actually paired with Equipment Group 312A. This group costs $9,500. 

It’s a little odd that you can’t have one option without the other. However, the package does add the 9.6-kW Power Pro generator, power tailgate with step and work surfaces, 20-inch wheels, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the Ford Co-Pilot 360 Advanced Driver Assist System. 

The F-150 Lightning Lariat has a lower upcharge. It starts at $69,169, and opting for the Extended Range Battery increases the price to $79,169. That’s only $10,000 more for 70 extra miles. This is still pretty high, but it’s better than nearly $20,000 extra. 

With the Lariat, the Extended Range Battery is paired with Equipment Group 511A. It consists of heated seats in the second row, a town-panel moonroof, and a few other luxury upgrades. 

When can you order an F-150 Lightning?

You can put in a reservation for an Extend Range Ford F-150 Lightning or a Standard Range model right now. Ford will allow reservation holders to place orders in waves. After the first wave, reservation holders will be contacted every two weeks until capacity is met. 

Some people may not get a 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning model. Only 80,000 units will be produced during 2022. But production will increase to 150,000 models per year due to unexpectedly high demand. 

The price for the Extended Range Battery hasn’t deterred people yet. We will keep you updated as we learn more about the ordering process and availability. The first deliveries will take palace in the spring.
