‘The Family Plan’ Hosts Hidden Gem Car Favorites
Mark Wahlberg is back in yet another levity-filled action movie, this time with a baby strapped to his chest. Yes, you read that right; “The Family Plan pits Wahlberg and his suspiciously eclectic family against the forces of evil. As you might expect, the family spends most of its time in a drab minivan. However, the movie also conceals a handful of pretty great car favorites, like a C7 Chevrolet Corvette, a Buick Skylark, and a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

Mark Wahlberg plays a family-oriented father and car salesman in “The Family Plan.” However, as so many Hollywood interpretations of the classic storytelling device establish, Wahlberg’s character, Dan Morgan, has a secret. Almost too predictably, Morgan was a trigger-pulling operator in a past life. However, his past catches up with his minivan-driving suburban lifestyle.
As such, the entire family must strive to survive, and in the process bond, on a cross-country road trip. However, in the process, car fans will notice a few standouts in “The Family Plan.” For instance, while the film establishes Morgan as a likable car salesman, his less-than-respectable colleague pulls up in a Chevrolet Corvette C7.
While Morgan’s colleague just emanates douchebaggery, the Corvette is a welcome improvement over the film’s most common automotive presence, a 2018 Honda Odyssey. What’s more, in a scene where Mark Wahlberg’s character moves a tracking device to elude his would-be followers, that same colleague fawns over a drop-top S550 Ford Mustang. The rank-and-file Mustang certainly seems like a downgrade from the Stingray, but to each their own, I suppose.
What’s more, “The Family Plan,” in an attempt to establish Dan Morgan as equal-parts smooth operator and dad, drives his sleeping family at speed to avoid motorcycle assassins. If you can suspend your disbelief long enough, you’ll be treated to some fun motorcycle antics.
However, the best car-watching arrives at the scene where Morgan attempts to bond with his son at a diner. Morgan calls an old contact, who is conveniently cruising in a drop-top Buick Skylark. On the other side of the call, car-spotters will notice a bright-blue 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1. Further, eagle-eyed viewers will pick out several classics on the Las Vegas streets, prompting a question of whether the vehicles were at a car show.
