Although the global pandemic slowed auto sales worldwide, sales of pickup trucks have done better than others. However, data from a new survey says that it is actually a small crossover SUV from Chevrolet that is the best seller right now. Surprisingly, eleven of the top twelve are crossovers or SUVs, and none are pickup trucks.

Millions of auto sales analyzed

According to a survey released by iSeeCars, the twelve fastest sellers in the country right now sell at a rate twice the speed of the average car. The data was compiled from March 2020 to June 2020. Over 4.4 million sales were analyzed. 

The Chevrolet Trailblazer came in at the top for the fastest-selling new vehicles. The Trailblazer is only on dealer lots an average of 19.0 days before being sold. The runner up was the Kia Telluride at 25.7 days. The Kia Seltos rounds out the top three. It is on the lot an average of 31.3 days before being sold. 

The Chevrolet Trailblazer

The Trailblazer debuted in the spring of 2020 as a 2021 model year vehicle as a sporty subcompact crossover. Its introduction brought back a nameplate that was previously on a mid-sized SUV. That SUV was discontinued in 2009. The new one has a starting price at $19,000 and is selling so briskly that the model is hard to find at some dealerships.

The Trailblazer is available as front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle. Two choices of three-cylinder engines are available. The strongest ones put out 155 horsepower. Standard safety features include lane keep assist, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, and automatic emergency braking.

Inside, the Trailblazer can seat five passengers in two rows, and the folding rear seats open up to an impressive 54.4 cubic feet of space. The crossover is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display for an infotainment interface and wireless charging. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are standard, and Bluetooth connectivity is available. 

Edmunds, the car review site, likes all the safety features and roomy seating. It also points out, 

“The Trailblazer also stands out slightly from other subcompact crossovers by offering the Activ trim level. Chevy has tuned it for off-road use by adding specialized all-season tires, revised shock absorbers, and a bit more ground clearance from a reshaped front fascia. The Activ also gets roof rails on a two-tone roof.”

Don’t get it confused with the other new Chevrolet

The Trailblazer is not to be confused with the Blazer. Both vehicles are new to the Chevrolet lineup but sized differently. The Blazer is a larger crossover SUV with a starting price of $28,800. The Blazer model did not make the top twelve list as provided by the survey. The Trailblazer did, however. 

The Trailblazer seems to check off all the requirements for a small crossover that people are looking for. That would be the newest safety technology, and relatively affordable price, and an all-wheel drive version for folks that experience significant foul weather where they live. So, the fact that the survey from iSeeCars shows the model disappearing from dealer lots more quickly than other models is actually not that surprising. Chevrolet may have found a golden ticket for now.
