Yes, you read that correctly. We said Ford Bronco Raptor. Also, there’s finally been an update as to where the Hybrid Ford Bronco is. If this intro doesn’t have enough meat to hook you, we can throw out another fun fact. The Ford Bronco Hybrid could have up to 450 hp.

The Ford Bronco Raptor Hybrid?

Unfortunately, we sniffed out new rumors that suggest a new Ford Bronco Hybrid that’s in the works. This information can’t be confirmed yet. However, it does give us some juicy evidence about what to expect.

Sources suggest that leaked information about a 2022 Ford Bronco Hybrid will be powered by the Ford 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, which would provide quite the power boost. The higher Ford Bronco trims are powered by a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

The twin-turbo V6 system will be paired with a 10-speed modular transmission that houses a 47-hp electric motor. The 3.3-liter version of this system is currently in the Ford Explorer and will be a 3.5-liter system in the upcoming Ford F-150 Hybrid.

Will the Ford Bronco beat the V8 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon?

We aren’t sure how Ford plans on tuning their hybrid system for the Bronco, yet. In the Lincoln Aviator, you’ll find a 3.0-liter engine that pumps out 495 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque, plus 21 miles of electric driving before gas kicks in.

Ford also needs to keep an eye on the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 393 concept powered by a 6.4-liter V8 HEMI with 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. However, that leaves Ford with enough room to either match or surpass that power.

But, that Jeep Wrangler is only a concept. It could roll out with even more power, and we’re still waiting to see what the Jeep Wrangler 4xe can do. On top of that, each Jeep model will have a hybrid version by 2022, so the Jeep Renegade 4xe might have an advantage over the Ford Bronco Sport. The power provided by these plug-in hybrid Jeeps is still unknown.

What About the Ford Bronco Raptor?

Will the infamous Bronco badge land on the new Ford Bronco Hybrid in 2022? The 3.0-liter hybrid system would create the most beastly Ford Bronco trim to honor the badge well. If the 450+ horsepower system doesn’t end up in the Ford Bronco Raptor, we can speculate an even more robust build.

The Ford Bronco Raptor will serve as a little brother to the Ford Raptor truck that is about to be replaced with the 2021 model. It will also be built to race across the desert sand and to compete in the Baja 1,000.

But the Ford Bronco Raptor will need a more powerful engine to compete with the Ram 1500 TRX, which has 702 horsepower, which is insane. Also, moving away from the leaf-spring suspension in the rear to a coil-spring setup could enhance off-road performance.

However, as more Ford Bronco options seem to be in the works and models are being heavily tested, we might have to wait a little while to learn more. We expect to see a few updates by the end of the year for the 2022 models, assuming they aren’t delayed.
