Everyone is getting in on the hybrid game, including the Ford Escape. But with so many options to choose from, how does the Ford Escape Hybrid compare? Let’s see if it can compete with the Honda CR-V Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, and more. 

How Does The Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid Compare?

It’s important to note that the idea of the Ford Escape has evolved over the years. It transformed from an off-roading compact SUV to a little city-dwelling vehicle. Now it’s changing again into a pretty impressive plug-in electric hybrid. 

The Ford Escape PHEV starts around $33k, which is about $10k more than the Ford Escape base model. 

The Escape Plug-In model also undercuts the Mitsubishi Outlander’s Hybrid model by about $3k. It’s competitively priced as the most affordable plug-in hybrid model in the U.S. 

Ford Escape PHEV Performance 

The Ford Escape Gas-electric crossover sports a 30-mile electric range. It also has a 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine with two electric motors to operate as a continuously variable automatic transmission. 

It sports a 550-mile range and is expected to get about 38 mpg. This is more than the Nissan Rogue Hybrid gets but slightly less than RAV4 Hybrid that gets up to 40 mpg combined. 

However, the Ford Escape PHEV only pumps out 221 horsepower, putting it right there with the RAV4 Hybrid that produces 219 horsepower. These two options will be very competitive against each other. 

The Ford Escape PHEV is about 550 lb heavier than the non-hybrid model, so that slows it down a bit. The Escape PHEV takes 8.8 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. The PHEV Ford Escape has a large 14.4 kWh battery that is responsible for the extra weight. 

While we would like to see a little more pep, at least we’re excited for the Ford Escape Hybrid to be offered in all-wheel drive, giving it the ability to handle snow and other slippery conditions. The Hybrid is also available in front-wheel drive. 

Instead of having a separate electric motor to power the rear wheels, the PHEV uses the classic method involving a prop shaft to send power to the back wheels. We will be curious to see how that affects its performance. 

Ford Escape PHEV Features 

The panoramic sunroof and 12″ digital display cluster behind the steering wheel give the Ford Escape an adventurous and advanced feel. The heads up display above the steering wheel also displays navigation, lane-keeping assistance, and more. 

The Escape PHEV has Amazon Key delivery, meaning once your Amazon package arrives, the delivery driver will be able to place your boxes in the backseat safely. 

The SUV will unlock when the package arrives and lock after it’s delivered to prevent your items from getting stolen. 

Plus, the Ford Escape Hybrid has a variety of driving modes such as Eco, Sport, Snow, Sand, and more to allow drivers to go further.
