Do you want the Electric Ford F-150 for business or pleasure? Because the Ford F-150 Electric pickup truck may fall more toward the business side, as Ford suggests their electric truck is a serious work truck to differentiate it from rivals. 

The Ford F-150 Electric is a work truck. 

Ford aspires to set their electric F-150 pickup apart from the Tesla Cybertruck and GM electric vehicles by focusing on creating a work truck instead of an option for recreation. The new all-electric F-150 will be built for heavy-duty hauling and towing instead of lifestyle fun. 

Kumar Galhorta, President of the Americas and International Ford Markets, shared that while other electric pickup trucks are targeting lifestyle customers, the all-electric Ford F-150 is designed and engineered for hard-working customers. This is why Ford aims to provide an electric truck that can get the job done. 

According to Galhotra, it’s essential for Ford to maintain the reputation of the Ford F-150 as a work truck when the electric version rolls out. It’s expected to debut in mid-2022. Because the F-Series trucks have been the nation’s top-selling vehicle for 38 years, it’s crucial that the Ford F-150 EV remains true to the ‘Built Ford Tough’ brand quality and history. 

What do we know about the Ford F-150 EV? 

The electric F-150 and Telsa Cybertruck matched up in a tug of war, but both trucks pulled each other back and forth, then a clear winner was never announced. So, we can sort of speculate that the Ford F-150 Electric could match the amount of power and torque that the Tesla Cybertruck provides. 

The Tesla Cybertruck may produce up to 800 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. The numbers for the electric Ford F-150 haven’t been announced yet. However, Ford said their electric pickup will be the fastest 150 available with more horsepower and torque than any other model. 

Currently, that fastest Ford F-150 has an EcoBoost engine and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Rival electric trucks can do this in under 3 seconds. Also, Ford revealed that the truck will have dual electric motors, while the Cybertruck has 3. 

The Ford F-150 EV probably won’t look too different from current models to maintain its heritage and brand quality. However, the teaser Ford released shows a new headlight bar that runs across the top of the grill. 

Ford EV power 

The Ford F-150 EV is being developed with a new mobile power generator unit. This will enable the truck to be used as a generation unit to provide a source of electricity on job sites, campgrounds, and more. 

Ford also suggests that the Ford EV will be cheaper to operate over its lifetime than any other F-Series truck. Buyers will save an estimated 40% over the maintenance costs involved with gasoline-powered Ford trucks. 

Over $700 million is being invested in the new Rouge Ford Facility in Dearborn, Michigan, to build the new Electric Ford F-150. Production on the 2021 Ford F-150 just started there, and about 300 jobs will be added.
