The Ford F-150 is making some real waves in the motor world, and with good reason. Ford offered some amazing deals for the new F-150. For example, in August buyers saved a whopping $6,500.

It was a smart move to entice potential buyers to take the leap and sign the paperwork. The 2019 F-150 also received rave reviews from Edmunds which gave the truck a solid 8.1 out of 10 in its expert review.

Of course, the 2012 model may have had its issues, but for the most part, the F-150 is one of the most dependable trucks on the market. So how does the 2019 year model compare to the competition? Let’s take a look.

2019 Ford F-150

For the past five years, the Ford F-150 has been crowned as Pickup Best Buy by Kelley Blue Book. Many competitors have taken a swipe at Ford in an effort to claim the title, but so far, all have failed. Some of the other titles that the F-150 has claimed include best-in-class towing capacity (13,200 pounds) and best-in-class payload capacity (3,270 pounds). It received 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Kelley Blue Book starts off its review of the F-150 by stating, “In the full-size truck segment, the Ford F-150 has been the sales leader, both the best-selling truck and best-selling overall vehicle in America, for quite some time. Credit a combination of capability, a wide range of trim levels and, in recent times, a high emphasis on technology and a wide array of engine choices.” 

Ford reports, “The available second-generation 3.5L EcoBoost® twin-turbo V6, at 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft. of torque, has an available conventional tow rating of 13,200 lbs.”

For people working in manual labor, this will prove incredibly useful. For those who just want a great looking truck, telling others that your truck can tow that much weight is highly impressive, even if you never attempt it.

Now let’s take a look at some of the competition and how it stacks up to the F-150.

2019 Ram 1500

Kelley Blue Book gave the Ram 1500 a score of 4.6 out 5 stars, which is slightly higher than what the F-150 received. It received mostly positive reviews for power and a smooth ride.   

One of the biggest selling features appears to be the technology aspects. Kelley Blue Book states, “One of the best-selling vehicles in the U.S., the Ram 1500 holds its own against formidable foes like the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 by being tech-savvy, comfortable and capable, and by appealing to a wide spectrum of buyers.”

The Ram 1500 still can’t stack up the F-150 in terms of towing capability, however. Kelley Blue Book states that the “tow rating maxes out at 12,750 pounds – slightly less than Ford F-150,” and has “fewer towing-specific features.” For farmers and individuals who work in manual labor, this might be a deal-breaker.

2019 Chevy Silverado

Another one of Ford’s competitors is the Chevy Silverado. It tied with the F-150 with a score of 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Kelley Blue Book states that the Silverado has made some improvements, but it still falls behind the Ram 1500 in terms of infotainment, and still can’t match the towing capabilities of the F-150. 

One area that the Silverado does beat out the competition is in the truck bed capacity. According to Motor Trend, “The 2019 Silverado boasts the most cargo volume in every bed length, with the short-box offering 63 cubic feet of volume, which officials say is 20 percent more than the competition.”

For drivers who have large loads to haul that don’t weigh 13,200 lbs, this may be the best option when purchasing a new truck.

Final thoughts on the F-150

While other competitors may be looking for ways to beat out the F-150, it is no easy task. In 2020, Ford will be releasing an electric engine model of the F-150, which Ford reports can tow over a million pounds. Between its massive towing capacity and the jump to electric, it appears that Ford may earn Pickup Best Buy for the sixth year in a row.
