The Ford Maverick Keeps Getting Worse
We know that the 2022 Ford Maverick is coming, but we aren’t sure if we should be excited or not. Every new piece of information we hear about the Ford Maverick provides confusion about why Ford would do that.
The Ford Maverick might not be worth it
Mainly rumors are circulating around the Ford Maverick as we keep receiving teasers about it. However, Ford did apply copyright to the term, and we have seen a tailgate with ‘MAVERICK’ stamped across it.
But the Maverick used to be a legendary muscle car, so why bring it back as a compact truck? Also, it could be similar to the discontinued Ford Courier, which is a unibody truck. That means the new compact truck will not have a body-on-frame build.

The unibody suspension will make the little truck have a better ride quality on the road but will hurt its off-roading abilities. Plus, the little truck is rumored to only be available in all-wheel-drive.
This is another strike against off-roading features as all-wheel-drive isn’t as flexible or powerful as true four-by-four capabilities. You need 4×4 for crawling over rocks and getting unstuck in the mud or snow.
The Ford Maverick could look weird
The Ford Maverick is also rumored to have the Ford Fiesta frame and may be based on the Ford Transit Connect, which is a van. The idea of turning a van into a unibody truck hurts our imaginations.
Will the Ford Maverick be a four-door Transit with a 4 to 5 ft bed? Or will it have only two-doors, like the smaller Ford Ranger? The midsize Ford Ranger already has the sloping unibody shape like the Honda Ridgeline, so it could be safe to assume that a funky curve will be included with the Maverick’s design.
The Ford Maverick could be weak
Rumors suggest the Ford Maverick will take parts from the Ford Transit Connect, including the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 165 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. This is a diesel engine which is interesting, but we hoped the Maverick name would come with more power.
Apparently, the 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine with 180 horsepower will be available later. The Ford Transit Connect can tow up to 2,000 lb, which is alright. There is no word on if the Ford Maverick will be able to match that power through.
The Ford Maverick could be cheap
Rumors also suggest that the Ford Maverick could be an economy truck. Some rumors claim that the Ford Maverick will start around $20k. While we say no way a new Ford truck could cost that low, maybe starting about $22k is more reasonable.
The classic cheap trucks like the Chevy Colorado and Nissan Frontier are moving up in price, but that’s because the new 2021 models are getting new bells and whistles. If the Ford Maverick is an economy truck, then it might not come with many options.
Heck, the 2020 Ford F-150 base model doesn’t even have an infotainment center. So, forget Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote start, automatic climate control, parking sensors, standard safety features, and more.
