The Ford Ranger Raptor Was Spotted With a Beefy Bronco
Fans of the Ford Ranger Raptor can take a moment to rejoice. We might be getting the model in America! Spy shots captured an image of the Ford Ranger Raptor being tested with the Ford Bronco, giving us plenty of clues about what to expect.
The Ford Ranger Raptor was spotted in America
According to Auto Blog, a spot photographer caught images of the Ford Bronco Raptor being tested with a beefy Ford Bronco Warthog. But we’re more excited about the Ranger Raptor because previous models haven’t been offered in the United States, but the Bronco is already back.
The vehicles are being covered in camouflage, but you can still gather that the Ranger Raptor says “FORD” on the grille. So, it’s time for the Baby Bronco to move over. The Mini Raptor gets the spotlight now.
You can also see C-shaped headlights and a boxier, upright shape. It looks like the refreshed version of the Ford Ranger that’s coming out soon. Also, unlike the Ford Bronco Sport, the Ranger Raptor is expected to be an off-roading beast.
What to expect with the Ranger Raptor
For the spy photos, you can see that the 2021 Ford Ranger Raptor has a durable skid plate that begins at the bumper and extends around the front subframe. It also has muscular control arms and looks like it has a live rear axle.
There are also large trailing arms that connect to the rear axle. It could feature a Panhard rod for lateral placement and movement along with a coil spring suspension and electronically adjustable Fox shocks.
While the Ranger Raptor is sitting pretty high off the ground with large, off-roading tires, it looks a bit smaller than the Bronco Warthog. It doesn’t seem as wide, which is a positive for fitting on narrow trails.
Car and Driver suggest that the Ranger Raptor will have the same town-turbo V6 engine that’s found in the 2021 Bronco. It pumps out 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The standard Raptor is expected to keep its current 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
When will we know more about the Ranger Raptor?
The refreshed 2022 Ford Ranger will be here by the end of 2021. Perhaps the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor will make its debut with the standard truck. It may come out a few months afterward, though.
Pricing for Ranger Raptor hasn’t been announced yet. However, The Chevy Colorado ZR2 begins at around $41,600, and the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro starts at about $44,175. So, hopefully, the Baby Raptor will have similar pricing.
But unfortunately, the Ranger Raptor is a lot more expensive in Australia. The 2.0-liter turbo diesel variant begins around $76,290. It’s getting a V8 engine, too, from the Mustang GT, and that variant is expected to cost over $100,000. Those prices feel astronomical for a midsize truck.
Production of the V8 Ford Ranger Raptor in Australia will be limited, which could be a cause of the increased price. However, Ford may be able to offer more of the midsize trucks in America, especially if it shares parts with the Ford Bronco.
