The Guinness World Record for Hairiest Car Might Make Your Skin Crawl
It’s the Guinness World Record that you never knew you didn’t want to break: the world’s hairiest car. Yes, you read that right, somewhere out there, one individual decided to set a record for one strange car customization. Even hairstylists might think this one has gone a little too far, and we can’t really imagine the time and energy it takes to upkeep a Fiat covered in…hair.

It is altogether astonishing that this world record even exists in the Guinness Book of World Records, but yet it does. The record was set on March 15th, 2014, and while it isn’t the most uneasy thing we’ve seen a record for, the pictures might make your skin crawl. Not to worry, though, your chances of seeing this car out and about in the streets of Salerno, Italy, aren’t very high these days.

Knowing that there is a car out there covered in hair probably leaves you with a lot of questions. To answer what is probably your first question of what type of car it is, the hair was attached to a Fiat 500 — though we doubt this is a record Fiat enthusiasts are going to brag about. The other answer, which you probably didn’t really want, is yes, the car is covered in authentic human hair. We aren’t sure if that makes it better or worse.
The car’s owner
The owner of this particularly hairy Fiat 500 is a woman named Maria Lucia Mugno, and we guess it makes sense to say that she is a hairstylist herself. According to Maria, it took more than 150 hours to cover her Fiat in the 120kg of hair (264lbs) — that’s roughly the weight of a giant panda, except if that panda was entirely made of hair (ew).
Not many details were given in regards to how the hair was acquired, except that it was purchased from India. After more than a hundred hours of braiding and attaching the hair to the car, Maria Lucia Mugno can now safely proclaim that she does, in fact, have the world’s hairiest car.
I wouldn’t personally want to touch the car, but the design that Maria Lucia Mugno used to braid and attach the human hair to the car does make it look kind of cute. While it’s far from the latest trend in automotive customization, this car is guaranteed to turn heads — and maybe make your skin crawl, too.
