The eighth-generation Corvette has been highly-anticipated since Chevy first released its plans. The C8 Corvette is newly-designed and may offer more performance than ever before. As if the 2020 Corvette isn’t exciting enough, there’s one company that plans on taking its conversion talents and the newest Corvette to completely new heights (and completely new power).

The world’s first twin-turbo C8 Corvette

While most Corvette fans revel the day the newest model is released, the 2020 model year is bringing a new level of excitement. Though many companies cannot wait for the day they can get their hands on the 2020 Corvette, one Texas-based tuning company is the first to complete a twin-turbo conversion of the stock C8 Corvette.

According to its own press release back in December of 2019, Hennessey Performance Engineering will offer “a specially designed twin-turbo system that will include a specially built LT2 V8 engine with upgraded engine internals.” But while many conversions of the Corvette have been made, Hennessey’s HPE1200 could be the most powerful yet.

Texas-based Hennessey takes the 2020 Corvette to all new heights

The Hennessey-made twin-turbo Corvette will offer more power than ever before. According to Car and Driver, the 2020 Corvette comes standard with a 6.2-liter eight-cylinder mid-engine that makes 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

While plans are in the works for a more-powerful ZR1 variant, Hennessey couldn’t wait to slap its own twin-turbo kit on the newly-released Corvette. The converted Hennessey twin-turbo Corvette will now be able to make an astounding 1200 hp.

Stock 2020 Corvettes can hit 60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in only 11.2 seconds, with a top speed of 194 miles per hour. Though no new Hennessey Corvettes have been tested, we expect the power will make them much faster. 

Owners will be able to choose from a variety of upgrades to their new Corvette. Owners can choose the maximum hp they want, with Hennessey offering upgrades ranging from $5,000-$35,000 (or more), according to Car and Driver.

Alongside the twin-turbo system is a uniquely-built V8 with forged aluminum pistons and steel connecting rods. Hennessey also upgraded the dual-clutch transmission and is offering other upgrades in the carbon fiber body, brake system, and adjustable suspension. Owners should also expect upgrades to the tires and wheels, better-equipped to handle the massive power it creates.

Though you may already see the standard 2020 Corvettes out on the road, Hennessey isn’t quite done with its specially-made editions. Hennessey began taking orders for the HPE1200 C8 Corvette immediately after it released its plans in December. While one (belonging to Hennessey) is completed, there is no expected timeframe in which owners can expect their newly-converted Corvettes.

Hennessey ups the ante on the already-highly-anticipated Corvette

Hennessey is smart to take advantage of converting the 2020 Chevy Corvette. After all, the latest Corvette may just be the most-anticipated yet. According to Car and Driver, the 2020 Corvette is the first mid-engine version ever. Now with the engine behind the passenger cabin, the Corvette is more like a Ferrari or Porsche, but for much less money.

Owners can choose between two coupe body styles: a coupe with a removable roof panel or for the first time, a convertible with a retractable hardtop. The new hardtop can even activate at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

Currently, stock Corvettes will be sold at a starting price of between $59,000 and $78,000, depending on style and variant. According to Chevy, the newest Corvette may not be “your everyday car, but a car you want to drive every day.”
