The Honda Pilot should be considered as a three-row SUV for the family, but it seems a little on the pricier side. This makes us wonder if the Honda Pilot has enough value to make it worth buying or not, so let’s dive right into its features and specs. 

Is The Honda Pilot Worth Buying? 

You can get started in a Honda Pilot for about $31k, which isn’t bad for an SUV with three rows. However, the Kia Seltos is a  cheaper option and only starts around $26k. So what makes the Honda Pilot worth paying an extra $5k for? 

It’s not the fuel economy. The Honda Pilot only gets up to 20 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway, making it less fuel-efficient than its rivals. But to be fair, this is still good for a larger SUV. 

Honda Pilot Performance 

The Honda Pilot comes with a single engine option, which is a 3.5-liter V6 engine. It provides 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. So this is probably why the base model has a higher start price compared to competitors with four-cylinder base model engines. 

However, the Honda Pilot is a bit weak in comparison. While its rivals can tow up to 5,000 lb, the Pilot can only tow up to 3,5000 lb. But to our surprise, this is a speedy option. The Pilot can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. 

If you live in an area that’s prone to snow or plan to go camping, the Honda Pilot is available in all-wheel-drive. It will cost about an extra $2k to add AWD, raising the base model’s price to $33k. 

Unlike competitors, the Honda Pilot doesn’t come with off-roading technology such as driving modes for snow, sand, and mud. 

On a positive note, the Honda Pilot is equipped to provide a smooth and quiet ride. The acoustic glass will help keep the city noises out, and the unibody frame will ride like a sporty car. Also, the MacPherson front strut suspension in the front and a multi-link suspension in the rear will absorb impacts. 

Honda Pilot Features 

The Honda Pilot has a 5″ infotainment center. This is pretty small! The standard or modern LCD screen size in most vehicles is 7″. Also, the base model doesn’t connect to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. You’ll have to upgrade to the EX trim for more connectivity. However, the base model does have Bluetooth connectivity. 

You’ll only find up to 16.5 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear of the Honda Pilot. But there are up to 83.9 cubic feet of cargo space total. So, if you don’t need to put passengers in the third row, there’s plenty of room. 

Also, the Honda Pilot is pretty safe. It has safety features such as lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, forward collision prevention, and more. 

But there seems to be nothing special about this SUV. Sure, the Honda Pilot offers three rows and a smooth ride, but that’s about it. It’s weaker than its rivals, and you have to pay even more for standard tech and capabilities.
