Today two Hyundai SUVs will battle to determine which option is best. The Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Tucson are two popular options that will be judged based on space, power, performance, features, and more to help you determine what to buy. 

The Hyundai Tucson VS. The Hyundai Kona 

Price 

At first glance, the Tucson and Kona look like two very similar SUVs and both options can seat up to five people. 

The Hyundai Tucson starts around $23k while the Hyundai Kona begins a little cheaper and starts around $20k. Both models have higher trim options that raise the price by about $10k. 

Fuel economy-wise, the Kona barely takes the cake with the ability to get up to 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The Tucson only gets up to 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Power 

The Hyundai Kona has two engine options. A 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder option. The 2.0-l option provides 175 horsepower. The Kona is more powerful than expected and can go from 0 to 60 mph in only 6.6 seconds. 

The Hyundai Tucson offers a little more power with two engine options. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder option provides 161 horsepower. 

Or you can upgrade to the 2.4-liter four-cylinder option with 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The Tucson can tow up to 1,000 lb. However, the Tucson has less pep and takes 8.8 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. 

Both of these Hyundai SUVs come with all-wheel drive (AWD), so both have the ability to tackle snow or other slippery conditions. However, go with the Kona for more pep and the Tucson to tow lightweight items. 

Space 

The Hyundai Tucson is praised for having more legroom and passenger space than the Kona. It is the better option for taller people. 

In the Tucson, you can access up to 31 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and up to 61.9 cubic feet of cargo space total. 

The Hyundai Kona has 19.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and up to 45.8 cubic feet of cargo space total. 

So, if you have more luggage or want the ability to haul more items around town, go with the more spacious Tucson. 

Hyundai Kona And Tucson Features 

Both of these SUVs have the same turning radius and have positive reviews for being easy to maneuver around tight spaces. However, the Kona is a bit slimmer, making it easier to pull into parking spaces. 

Also, the Kona and Tucson feature similar technology. They both have 7” infotainment centers that can be upgraded to 8” with higher trim options. Both vehicles can connect to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. 

However, the higher trim options on the Tucson feature premium features such as wireless phone charging. 

And again, both SUVs are similar in terms of safety. They have exceptional five-star safety ratings to keep you and your passengers protected. 

When it comes to deciding between the Kona and the Tucson you can save a tiny bit with the Kona to have more pickup. Otherwise, if you have a family or will be toting more than one passenger around, go with the Tucson.
