‘The Iron Claw’ Star Zac Efron Restored a Classic Mustang for His Grandfather
Ask anyone from the “High School Musical” generation, and they can tell you about the Disney kid turned heartthrob, Zac Efron. However, they might not be familiar with his grandfather’s charmingly classic 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible. Well, Efron decided to invest in the old-school Blue Oval cruiser. The result? The “Iron Claw” actor gave his grandpa’s drop-top Mustang a new lease on life.
Zac Efron had his grandfather’s 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible restored
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), “Baywatch” star Zac Efron posed with a dark gray 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible. While that doesn’t seem out of the norm for an actor like Efron, the car isn’t your typical classic pony car.
No, this drop-top Mustang belongs to Zac Efron’s grandfather, Hal Efron. However, rather than returning it to its former glory, the Hollywood actor decided to tastefully update his grandfather’s ‘Stang. At a glance, the Mustang wears a metallicized gray, not unlike so many handsome shades of gunmetal. Observers will also notice modern wheels and tires with a lower-than-stock ride height.
“After 2 years of remodeling, my grandpa’s 1965 Mustang is finally ready,” Efron wrote on his X account. “It’s a beast.” We’re glad he loves the finished product. However, whether or not it’s a beast is up for debate.
To the keen eye, a set of drilled Wilwood brakes pokes out behind the classic Mustang’s new-age wheels and tires. All signs point to loving restomod. Paired with Zac Efron’s net worth and two years of work, it’s not ridiculous to expect a volcanic powerplant and gearing to match.
That said, the 1965 Ford Mustang is one of the best-selling American sports cars of all time. As a result, it’s a popular choice among hot rodders, builders, and car enthusiasts. If you go to a few car shows, you’re bound to see a 1965 Ford Mustang with a built 302 cubic-inch V8 or a fuel-injected 5.0L Coyote V8 swap.
If Grandpa Efron’s newly restored Mustang Convertible received the restomod treatment, it’s almost certainly, as Zac Efron said, a beast. We’d sure love to see a video of it running up the rev range, perhaps accompanied by supercharger whine.
