The Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s Tow Rating Blows Other Luxury SUVs Away
The new 2022 Grand Wagoneer is a luxury Jeep SUV. With the Grand Wagoneer, Stellantis finally joins Ford and General Motors in offering a luxury SUV on a truck platform. The 4WD Grand Wagoneer’s incredible tow rating puts it at the head of the pack.

The Cadillac Escade’s tow rating is 7,300-8,200 pounds
The Cadillac Escalade is General Motors’ most luxurious full-frame SUV. It shares the GMT T1XX platform with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra as well as the Cheverolet Suburban and GMC Yukon.
Customers can order an Escalade with a traditional, naturally-aspirated Chevy V8. They can also opt for a 3-liter I6 diesel engine.
The sturdiest Escalade features the $600 heavy-duty trailering package with a high capacity cooling system and trailer camera. It boasts a maximum tow rating of 8,200 pounds. But opting for 4WD or the long wheelbase variant decreases this Cadillac SUV’s tow rating.
The Lincoln Navigator’s tow rating is 6,200-8,700 pounds
Like the Escalade, the Lincoln Navigator is a full-size SUV built on a full-frame truck Chassis. The Navigator rides on Ford’s T3 platform which it shares with the F-150 and Expedition.
Unlike these other luxury, full-size American SUVs, Lincoln has tossed the naturally-aspirated V8. The automaker only offers Navigators with the D35 EcoBoost. Thats a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. As a result, Lincoln advertises a 22 mpg highway rating.
Lincoln also advertises a maximum tow rating of 8,700 pounds. The company clarifies that this is for loaded, 2WD models.
The Grand Wagoneer’s tow rating is 9,850 pounds
Jeep’s new 2022 Grand Wagoneer is the tow rating class-leader. Just like the Navigator and Escalade, the Grand Wagoneer shares its chassis with a truck. In this case, the Ram DT platform.
The Grand Wagoneer shares the Ram 1500’s fully-boxed ladder frame. Every Grand Wagoneer also has the Ram’s top-trim gasoline engine: the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with an eTorque mild-hybrid system.
But Jeep’s Grand Wagoneer differs from the Ram truck in some important ways. While the current generation of the Ram truck has a solid rear axle, the Grand Wagoneer comes with independent rear suspension. In addition, the Ram truck is available as 2WD or part time 4WD. Every Grand Wagoneer comes with full time 4WD.
These drivetrain changes improve the Grand Wagoneer’s performance while towing. TFL Truck tested the Grand Wagoneer alongside the Ram 1500 and found the SUV to be faster and more efficient while pulling an 8,000 pound trailer.
Evert Grand Wagoneer boasts a tow rating of 9,850 pounds. These means the 4WD Jeep can tow 1000+ more pounds than the 2WD Escalade and 2WD Navigator. It pulls even further ahead of its 4WD competitors. If you need a 4WD SUV that can pull heavy loads, the Grand Wagoneer is the clear choice.
