Plot twist alert! One discontinued SUV is surprisingly returning from the grave as an electric vehicle. Earlier in the year, I said sad goodbyes to the gas-powered Jeep Renegade, but it’s already coming back as the Jeep Renegade EV.

The Jeep Renegade EV starts at $25,000

The tiny adorable Jeep Renegade EV is coming to resurrect the nameplate from its grave. After saying goodbye to the gas-powered Renegade, I wondered how Jeep would replace it with something people can actually afford.

I’m quite surprised by this move as the Renegade EV will start at $25,000, making it the cheapest model in the lineup. Still, the brand would benefit from something around $21,000.

I’m a bit skeptical about the price staying that low because the Renegade EV isn’t expected to arrive until 2027.

Rising inflation and supply chain issues could cause prices to increase. For example, the Tesla Cybertruck, Ford Maverick, and Ford F-150 Lightning each received price hikes well above their original price.

One could say that the Renegade will be a rebadged version of the Avenger for America, but if that was the case why would it take so long to enter the market?

The Avenger has a 54 kWh battery pack with 250 miles of range. Americans will want a larger range as anything with under 300 miles is often poo-pooed.

When the Renegade first came out with its $15,000 MSRP it was praised as a worthy off-roader that could mostly keep up with Jeep Wranglers. Hopefully, it will maintain this reputation with an electric motor on each axle for extra torque.

Also, the Avenger has an internal combustion engine available, so there’s still hope for a gas-powered Renegade to return. I would love to take the European Renegade Hybrid for a spin as well. I think a PHEV Renegade would be a hit as well.

The Renegade EV is only one substantial change that’s on the way. The remodeled Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Gladiator, Jeep Cherokee, and Jeep Wagoneer will arrive in 2027. Plus, Jeep will provide six all-electric models by then, so stay tuned for updates.
