You may have to look twice to make sure the Renegade is a real Jeep, but trust us, it is. It may not have the tough-looking exterior or the tall wheels, but it’s still a Jeep. If you’re still not sure, just check out the badge. The grill and headlights still have that trademark Jeep appearance, so you’ll recognize it from the front.

For someone who doesn’t like the traditional Jeep, this may be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s your ticket into the Jeep family without having to go with a style that hasn’t changed much since WWII. Many people still love that look, but it’s not for everyone. If you want a Jeep that has moved away from the tried and true, here are some of the standard features offered on the Renegade. 

Standard features on the Jeep Renegade

Jeep is well known for its tough vehicles that can go literally anywhere, but 4WD does not come standard on the Renegade. That being said, Kelley Blue Book reports that the Renegade does come standard with front-wheel drive, a 180-horsepower four-cylinder engine, and a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The interior isn’t anything to write home about, since it’s simple cloth upholstery. Thankfully, the technology is a bit more interesting, even if it does fail to keep up with some competitors.

The Renegade comes with a rearview camera and a Uconnect infotainment system. You can view this on the 5-inch display, while listening to your favorite jams on a six-speaker audio system. There is also a USB port, and Bluetooth. This isn’t exactly the most exciting of standard features, so let’s check out what you can get by either upgrading or going for a higher trim level. 

Upgrade your Jeep Renegade

As we already mentioned, 4WD does not come standard, but you can always upgrade for $1,500. There are some other exciting features that you can get by upgrading your Renegade, such as better technology. 

If you want a bigger screen, there is an option to upgrade to a 7-inch touch screen and an 8.4-inch touch screen. These also come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, navigation, an extra USB port, and satellite radio. 

Other features that aren’t that exciting, but you can get used to very quickly, are heated front seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Once you get them, you may not ever want a vehicle that doesn’t have them again, so consider yourself warned. 

Since everyone is concerned about safety, you’ll be interested to know that while the Sport model doesn’t come with many safety features, you can get them at higher trim levels. These include: lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, parallel and perpendicular park assist, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors.

If you’re looking for more options, then the Trailhawk trim is probably your best bet. According to U.S. News,

“The Trailhawk trim goes for $27,795 and features the turbo-four engine, full-time four-wheel drive with low-range gearing, all-terrain tires, skid plates, a higher ride height, and tow hooks. A Selec-Terrain system is available. This lets you tailor the ride for Snow, Sand, Mud, and Rocks.”

That’s not that bad of a price for all that you get on the Trailhawk, especially if you’re interested in going off-road.

The standard features aren’t as bad as previous years

Despite its reliability, the Jeep Renegade can’t hide from the fact that it lacks standard features. However, previous model years had even less standard features. For example, Jeep decided not to include air conditioning on the 2018 and 2019 models.

Why? We have no idea. Air conditioning is such a basic feature, consumers have learned to take it for granted. Either way, you could always upgrade, but is it worth it when there are other competitors that don’t make you shell out the extra dough for air conditioning?
