The Kia Stinger Is Getting Another Performance Boost in 2021
The Kia Stinger is one of the automaker’s latest vehicles, first released for the 2018 model year. However, it’s already proving itself to be a popular car among consumers. It’s fun to drive, cozy on the inside, and it’s one of the safest cars on the road.
Since the Stinger is so new, it’s not due for a remodel just yet. However, the 2021 model will have some changes. What we’re most excited about is an upgraded engine that will produce even more horsepower. Will this update make it a better buy than the 2020 Kia Stinger?
All the new features for 2021
No drastic changes are planned for the Kia Stinger’s exterior aside from a few styling details. It will have new headlight shapes, and an LED light bar will run between the two taillights. The appearances of the front and rear bumpers have also been slightly tweaked.
A 10.25-inch touchscreen will now be standard in every trim except the base GT-Line. The instrument cluster will also be fully digital. The most notable addition is the updated engine, which will only be available for higher GT trims. While it doesn’t offer a huge power boost, it’s still a great incentive to purchase a pricier model.
How powerful is the upgraded engine?
Currently, the 2020 Kia Stinger has two different engines on tap. The base motor is a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder capable of 255 hp. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and has rear-wheel drive. For $6,000 more, drivers can get a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 capable of 365 hp.
For 2021, this engine’s output will jump to 380 hp. It will also feature a variable exhaust system that will likely increase the car’s acceleration. CNET also speculates that a 2.5-liter engine may also become available for the base GT-line trim.
What will probably stay the same
The Kia Stinger’s V6 offers already offers drivers a thrilling ride, even if it’s not the most fuel-efficient motor. GT models also come with an adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes, and a limited-slip rear differential. All-wheel drive is also available no matter which version you buy.
The Stinger’s interior looks just as sophisticated as its outward appearance. High-quality, soft-touch materials are used throughout the cabin, and the leather seats are very supportive. Bluetooth and smartphone integration are both included, along with HD/satellite radio and wireless charging. Most of its advanced safety features, like lane assistance and forward collision warning, are reserved for higher trims.
The Kia Stinger vs. its competition
One thing that stands out about the Kia Stinger is its affordability. It currently has a base price of around $33,000, with the range-topping GT models starting at around $39,000. Still, it offers just as much in terms of performance as other luxury rivals. It also has one of the best warranties in its class.
In a recent comparison, Kelley Blue Book actually preferred the Kia Stinger over the 2020 Audi A7. However, it’s worth noting that similar Audi and BMW cars have more opulent interiors.
Drivers love their Kia Stinger models
The Kia Stinger has the highest possible owner satisfaction score according to Consumer Reports. 81 percent of Kia Stingers owners said they would buy the car again. By comparison, only 68 percent of BMW 3 Series owners were happy with their cars.
The Kia Stinger also isn’t known for many severe problems like transmission failure or engine malfunctions. This could be because it’s still a very new model, but it also has a high predicted reliability score. Even though the Stinger is still behind the Kia Soul in terms of sales, it’s still a great car overall.
