The Kia Telluride Just Took Home This Coveted Award
Each year, automotive fans look forward to the naming of the World Car Awards. It’s exciting to see favorites take tops spots and underdogs rise above the competition. Many events have been either postponed or cancelled this year due to the worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, including the 2020 New York Auto Show. That didn’t stop 86 dedicated automotive journalists from 24 countries around the globe from judging the 16th year of the World Car Awards.
The flagship Kia Telluride has received ongoing attention since its release in 2019. In 2016, the Telluride was initially introduced as a concept car. The new Kia vehicle debuted last spring as the first generation 2020 Kia Telluride.
Starting at $31,890 this SUV boasts all terrain drivetrain and plush trim options. This new Kia SUV handles well and comes backed by Kia’s competitive warranty package. The Telluride has earned great reviews and numerous awards in the short time it’s been on the market.
2020 World Car of the Year
Announced April 8, 2020, the Kia Telluride took home the title “World Car of the Year” after being assessed by the global panel of 86 jurors. Among 29 contenders, the 2020 Telluride crushed the competition.
This is the first time Kia has ever landed a top three position in the World Car Awards. Additionally, the Kia Soul EV took home an award in the World Car of the Year Category as well. Kia made history this year as the first brand that has procured places for two of its vehicles in the World Car of the Year Category.
Previous winners of the World Car of the Year award include last year’s winner Jaguar’s I-Pace, 2018’s victorious Volvo CX60, the Jaguar F-Pace in 2017, and the Mazda MX5 that made the cut in 2016.
World Car Awards
This prestigious award is one of the most coveted automobile awards around. Journalists fastidiously judge a number of vehicles based on all-around awesomeness. The finalists this year were the Mazda 3 and the Mazda CX-30.
The Hyundai Palisade, Kia Tellurides biggest market competitor, didn’t rise to the top among the finalists. Kia came in with the Telluride and took the 2020 crown.
This is a big deal for any car brand, but especially Kia. The Telluride has simply blown people away since spring of 2019 when it hit scene. Now it adds this title from the World Car Awards to its list of honors.
