The Least Reliable 2020 Minivans Have the Highest Road Test Scores
Of all the 2020 minivans out there, Consumer Reports has road tested five. The top three CR-tested 2020 minivans are the Dodge Caravan, the Kia Sedona, and the Toyota Sienna are the most reliable minivans of 2020, according to CR. But which are the least reliable 2020 minivans?
Of the five they’ve tested CR gives these two the label of least reliable minivans of 2020. Interestingly enough, however, CR also gives each of these 2020 minivans –– one of which has a hybrid option –– high praise in several areas.
The Honda minivan and the Chrysler minivan are two minivans that have CR talking. In addition to low reliability, here’s what CR had to say about the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica and the 2020 Honda Odyssey.
The 2020 Honda Odyssey
The 2020 Honda Odyssey earned an overall score of 61. CR gave the Odyssey high marks nearly everywhere except for predicted reliability. CR praised its comfort and drivability, but it doesn’t rate high for reliability.
This Honda minivan is on the more expensive side –– $30,790 – $47,420, but it seems like the money is generally well spent. Given the score of 85 for the drive test, it’s a little strange that the Odyssey finds itself in this spot on the list.
Unlike the Dodge Caravan and the Kia Sedona, CR can barely find anything bad to say about the Honda Odyssey. Still, the low reliability rating brings its overall score down below the others.
In spite of a high road test evaluation, a reported 22 miles per gallon average, and what CR calls a “premium feel.” CR puts the 2020 Honda Odyssey on the list as one of the least reliable minivans of 2020.
The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica
The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica is another surprising favorite that earned a crushing reliability score from CR. It’s price compares to the Odyssey ranging from $34,045 – $45,845. With the lowest reliability of all the CR road-tested minivans of 2020, the Pacifica earned scores on each end of the spectrum.
With an overall scores of 59, the Chrysler minivan comes up short of all the others that CR road tested so far for 2020. The predicted reliability rating is as low as they go, but we couldn’t exactly find any details to support the claim in the CR review.
The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica earned great crash test scores from both IIHS and NHTSA. It’s CR average miles per gallon matches the top spot taker Toyota Sienna at 21 mpg. Additionally, it earned an equally high score of 85 in the road test. So why is the Chrysler Pacifica unreliable?
CR marks its low points as the engine lacking “refinement,” similar mpg as an SUV, but without the option of AWD, and a loss of cargo space in the hybrid version. We think those low points may be a bit of a reach.
The least reliable minivan
For the 2020 model year, CR gives the Honda Odyssey and the Chrysler Pacifica the lowest reliability and overall scores compared with the others they tested. The Pacifica now packs a punch that gives it a fresh competitive edge. The Honda Odyssey is a longtime minivan favorite that sports the valued Honda brand.
Though there has been high praise for each 2020 minivan, CR reviews didn’t place either van very high on the list. Overall, they are the least reliable 2020 minivans –– according to CR.
