If you look up video reviews for the Honda Grom and Monkey, you’ll likely see a few where the reviewer takes it on some light off-road trails. The mini-bikes always seem to ride just fine off the pavement, however, Honda just debuted a bike that is better suited for that kind of riding. Enter the 2021 Honda Trail 125.

The Honda Trail 125 is the brand’s newest Minimoto

Any motorcycle enthusiast might remember the Honda CT90 and CT110, both of which were adventure-ready bikes made in the 60s and 70s that felt comfortable both on and off the road. One was powered by a 90cc four-stroke engine, while the other carried a 105cc engine beneath its frame, hence the number designations in their names. The 2021 Honda Trail 125 picks up right where those two legendary bikes left off over 50 years ago.

However, the new trail-ready mini-bike has a lot of new advancements, as you would expect. For starters, it’s powered by a 125cc four-stroke, single-cylinder engine that pumps out a whopping 8.7 horsepower and powers the rear wheel via a four-speed semi-automatic transmission. That’s a pretty big departure over the manual transmission with high and low gearing that the older CT90 model had.

The Trail 125 builds upon the existing Super Cub C125 platform

If you look closely at the Honda Trail 125’s specs, you’ll notice that it looks very similar to those of the Super Cub C125 mini-bike. That’s because Honda took that existing bike and stretched out the frame for a longer, and more stable wheelbase and an increased rake. The front suspension fork is on millimeter wider in diameter and wheel travel has increased for more compliance off-road.

Speaking of going off the road, the Trail 125 is fitted with a high-mounted air intake to traverse watery roads better, an upward-facing exhaust pipe for better ground clearance, and a skid plate to protect the engine. Also, in case the starter dies while you’re exploring the roads unknown, Honda installed a kick starter on the Trail 125 to ensure you can get back on the road in no time. To round out the Trail 125’s off-road formula, the bike has front and rear disc brakes, 17-inch wheels and tires, and ABS is standard as well.

How much does the 2021 Honda Trail 125 cost?

In case you find yourself itching to get on a trail-ready mini-bike and have figured out the Honda Trail 125 is the right one for you, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s priced at $3,899 (without destination). This puts it right between the Honda Grom and the Honda Monkey in terms of pricing.

And although the pricing might sound a little steep for a small motorcycle like this, keep in mind that’s much more capable than the others in the lineup. It’s not too often that you can have pint-sized fun almost anywhere you can think of and the Honda Trail 125 is outfitted to get you there.
