One such gem is the 1969 Dodge Charger in the streaming service’s film The Man From Toronto. Love or hate the movie, Woody Harrelson’s sleek, muscular Mopar is worth a look, or several looks.

Given Woody Harrelson’s character in the film is a top-tier hitman, the sinister Charger seems to be a perfect partner. Better yet, Harrelson’s character, who goes by the moniker “The Man From Toronto,” considers the Dodge to be more than just a car. 

In The Man From Toronto, he repeatedly refers to an entity known as “Deborah,” which the viewer begins to believe is a woman or special someone. Instead, Deborah is the 1969 Dodge Charger 440 R/T, and Harrelson’s character loves it like a person. In fact, the protagonist even has the name tattooed on his neck.  

What is special about the 1969 Dodge Charger 440 R/T?

Aside from being a treat to look at, the 1969 Dodge Charger is a special muscle car. The properly villainous hideaway headlamps and wide-mouth grille have secured the car a spot in classic car enthusiasts’ hearts. In addition to the aesthetic, the R/T sported a 440 cubic inch 375 horsepower Magnum V8 engine and an option of a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. It appears in the film that Deborah is an automatic car. 

Why did the filmmakers choose that car for The Man From Toronto?

The filmmakers certainly chose correctly in a hitman-car pairing. The classic Charger’s low, wide, and angular shape should be enough, but the car also packed a compliment of torquey V8 engines. Furthermore, Harrelson’s co-star, Kevin Hart, is a big fan of Dodge Chargers and muscle cars in general. He has a show devoted to that fact and has commissioned a 1,000 horsepower 1970 Dodge Charger from master-builders Speedkore.

If you want your own 1969 Dodge Charger like the car in The Man From Toronto, you’ll have to pay big money for it. According to Hagerty, you should expect to pay $81,400 for a 1969 Dodge Charger 440 R/T in “good” condition. You might save a little money by opting for a “fair” condition example, but picking up one of these cars will cost you a lot of money. Still, it is quite a bit of car for the money, and Hemmings says the values are rising. 

What is the Dodge Charger known for?

In addition to The Man From Toronto, the Dodge Charger is known for many contributions to Hollywood. The longest-running contribution might be the relationship between the 1970 Charger and Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto in the Fast franchise. That character drove that car repeatedly, routinely destroying and rebuilding it. Also, cult classics like Bullitt and The Dukes of Hazzard featured the timeless muscle car.
