The Mercedes-Benz GLE Is the Roomiest Midsize Luxury SUV on the Market
With such an extensive selection of SUVs, competition has driven many makers to design roomier models. Luxury brands have entered the SUV market running at full speed. Brands like Mercedes-Benz always offered power, looks, features, and the roomiest interiors. In 2020, luxury SUVs are more affordable than ever, with the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE starting at under $53,000. Of course, there is the GLE 63 S, which might be the fastest SUV in the world — and expensive at around $200,000.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE ranked roomiest midsize SUV
Formerly known as the M-Class, German-based Daimler AG unveiled its Mercedes-Benz GLE in January 2016. It was introduced at the North American International Auto Show as a part of Mercedes-Benz’s renaming strategy. Besides getting a name change, the GLE SUV is a bit longer, with a redesigned front end and sportier aerodynamics. Despite being a midsized sports utility vehicle, the new Mercedes-Benz GLE features a well-defined yet sleek exterior.
As for the interior, it not only features the best tech but offers the most room of its class, according to U.S. News. Compared to the BMW X5, the 2020 GLE outsizes it by nearly two feet of cubic space. Something like two extra feet goes a long way, especially considering it cost less than the X5.
For luxury SUV buyers, having enough room can be a significant deciding factor. According to U.S. News, it’s ranked the number one luxury midsize and number one luxury crossover. As for the third row, it still did better than most by organizing second place.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE is a fast SUV
Mercedes-Benz manufactures some of the fastest vehicles in the world. The world’s first internal combustion engine in a car was a Mercedes-Benz, so it shouldn’t be that surprising.
On top of that, it’s been involved in motorsports racing since 1929. Mercedes has invested a lot of money in perfecting its engine technology. That investment seems to have paid off today, resulting in more power packed into smaller displacement engines.
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 4MATIC features a twin-turbocharged 483-horsepower V8 engine. The GLE 580 came out on top with handling as well. Its adaptive air suspension system gives drivers confidence while controlling all that power. Electronically controlled air springs offer stability and excellent handling control. It also allows drivers to raise and lower the SUV’s ground clearance with a button press.
Mercedes uses the most cutting-edge tech
All drivers need to say is, “Hey, Mercedes,” to activate the voice-recognition system to activate the MBUX infotainment system. A 12.3 touch screen comes standard. “MBUX” is an acronym for Mercedes-Benz User Experience, first introduced with the A-Class. MotorTrend rated it the best infotainment system on the market. Besides voice control and a touch screen, you can access the MBUX system via a touchpad or steering wheel controls.
While the convenience is nifty, reviewers loved MBUX’s spunky personal assistant. Mercedes-Benz exemplifies how voice command technology should behave when appropriately programmed. Like unique assistant software in smartphones, tablets, and devices such as Alexa, MBUX doesn’t need specific phrases.
Just because you have MBUX doesn’t mean you can’t have other assistant technology working alongside it. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay also come standard with the GLE, allowing you to access your Google profile and iCloud. MBUX works quite well with Google Play and Siri, which means you can choose whichever one to call upon for your needs.
