Typically though, when we think of Jeeps, what comes to mind first is the powerful Wrangler or the beastly Gladiator. But say you want a Jeep model and comfort is your main priority, which one would you pick?

The 2020 Jeep Compass is ideal for everyday drives

It just so happens that the 2020 Jeep Compass is one of the most affordable options in the Jeep lineup and provides noteworthy comfort. This two-row SUV comfortably seats up to five people and even accommodates those with long legs. The Compass isn’t exactly upscale on the inside but it’s standard cloth interior is welcoming and handsome enough.

You can dress up the inside of your Compass with vinyl or leather upholstery, as well as with a leather-covered steering wheel, and heated seats. While there is enough space to relax in the Compass, it’s still a Jeep, and Jeeps aren’t known for comfort as we mentioned earlier. The main complaint here is that the seats in the Compass are too firm. If you want an SUV that really delivers on comfort, you’ll probably want to look into models like the Honda CR-V.

How does the 2020 Compass perform?

The Compass is a good daily-driver but it’s also a good option for off-roading too. Each Compass model is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes a 180 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission comes standard. There’s also a six-speed automatic option available on front-wheel drive models and a nine-speed automatic available on models with four-wheel drive.

Overall, the Compass performs satisfactorily but its engine feels underwhelming at times. Critics complain that the SUV feels hesitant and rough. The Compass also has a below-average fuel economy rating with a combined 24 mpg.

What about technology?

The Compass does particularly well when it comes to technology. It comes with a great infotainment system that’s user-friendly and features a 7-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Infotainment upgrades include a 8.4-inch display screen, a Beats audio system, and HD Radio.

As far as advanced safety technology goes, the Compass is pretty blah. A rearview camera comes standard on the Compass and that’s about it. Jeep did expand its available advanced safety features for 2020 though. These optional features include forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and lane keep assist. 

Other things to consider about the Compass

The 2020 Compass is a solid SUV that’s earned a four-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This SUV is also fairly reliable but it has been recalled once by the NHTSA because of issues related to its windshield wipers. 

Overall, current Compass owners are happy with the SUV’s comfort levels and style but aren’t as pleased with its driving experience. We’d say that the most appealing thing about the Compass is that it’s a Jeep.
