If you’re in the market for a luxury SUV, then an Audi Q7 or Q5 has likely crossed your mind. And why not? Audi has been building cars for the better part of a century and has won multiple races, so it’s an easy choice if you’re looking for a luxury vehicle that is equal parts sporty as it is luxurious. However, Audi hasn’t been known for being reliable and the amount of complaints on Carcomplaints.com is a testament to that. Here are the two most complained about Audi SUVs.

Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 is the brand’s compact crossover that competes with the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, and the Lexus RX. It’s been in the market since 2008 and just recently, a Q5 hybrid was added to the lineup to offer buyers a more fuel-efficient alternative to the gas-only Q5. And while it’s too early to tell the reliability of those newer cars, the older ones haven’t gotten that great of a reputation on Car Complaints as there are currently 100 complaints filed for the Q5.

The worst model year noted is the 2014 model year and the worst issue marked as “engine problems.” Taking a closer look, there are multiple complaints from owners stating that the 2.0-liter turbo engine in their cars “suddenly stopped” or was “shaking and not accelerating.” As it turns out, there was a class-action lawsuit for Q5 models in that vintage (2012 to 2014), so we would advise possibly looking for a newer Q5 if you want to go that route.

Audi Q7

The Audi Q7 is the brand’s three-row SUV offering that competes with the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. It’s been in the market since 2006 and Audi just updated it for the 2021 model year. However, the older models do have some complaints filed for them, mainly the 2007 model, which Car Complaints listed at the worst model year with the primary issues being the brakes.

There are a couple of complaints concerning brake issues, mainly pertaining to water leaking during heavy rain and ruining the electronics, specifically the ESP module that controls the brakes. Fortunately, there are only two complaints on the issue, however, we would always suggest buying the newest Q7 that you can afford as the later models have fewer complaints and you will most likely having fewer issues in general.

Audi SUV complaints

While Audi is mainly known for its luxuriously solid all-wheel-drive cars and SUVS, they have their fair share of issues. Luckily, there weren’t too many complaints listed for their SUV models, at least not as many as some of the brand’s competitors. And it looks like the Audi cars have even more complaints, but we’ll get to those at a later time.

Just remember, the complaints totals are not percentages based on the number of units sold, rather, they are the actual number of complaints filed for each vehicle. If you’re in the market for an Audi SUV, always remember to get a pre-purchase inspection done as repairs can be very costly.
