While it has taken Hyundai the better part of the last two decades to catch up with its Japanese rivals in terms of sales and popularity, it has done a great job in covering the distance. It’s mid-size compact sedans, the Sonata and Elantra, have greatly improved through every generation, but it owes a lot of its progress to its SUVs, which have changed some of the public’s perception of the brand. Hyundai Santa Fe

The Hyundai Santa Fe has been in the market since 2001 and has gone through a lot of changes since its debut. Now in its fourth generation, the Santa Fe is bigger, bolder, and well-equipped to handle just about any family outing, however, if you’re looking to purchase one, whether new or used, there are some issues you might want to take into consideration. Among all of Hyundai’s SUVs, the Santa Fe has the most complaints, with 987 of them filed on Carcomplaints.com.

The site lists the 2012 model year as being the worst one to buy. Many of the complaints cite engine issues including loss of power and complete engine failures, as well as violent jerking and vibrations. However, the most complained about year was 2007, with 143 total complaints filed, mostly due to fuel system issues. Upon closer inspection, the majority of the complaints were due to faulty fuel sensors that lead to the fuel gauge not working, making it tough to fill up the car with fuel and monitor fuel levels.

Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson is the brand’s compact crossover that competes with the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. And while it can stand its ground against legendary stalwarts like those two, it has had its fair share of issues along the way. Most specifically the 2016 model year, which has been marked as the worst year to buy according to Carcomplaints.com.

The 2016 Tucson was equipped with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission and the website states that it was likely the main cause of the 129 complaints filed concerning the car being to accelerate from a complete stop. Considering 2016 was the first model year of the Tucson’s third-generation redesign, we’re not too surprised. Luckily, Hyundai seemed to get the issue figured out as the subsequent years have far fewer complaints from their owners.

Hyundai Palisade

The Hyundai Palisade is all-new for the 2020 model year, so there shouldn’t be any surprise that there are barely any complaints listed about it. However, let’s not ignore that there are currently nine complaints listed for it on Carcomplaints.com. Luckily, four of them are for windshield issues such as excessive wind noise, the wipers turning on automatically, and the windshield cracking, while the others like the HVAC screen being cracked and the blind spot indicators sensing invisible cars. They weird issues, although they are likely easy fixes.

Ultimately, considering these three SUVs are the most popular models under the Hyundai brand name, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that they have garnered the most complaints over the years.
