If you’re looking for unparalleled off-road prowess or just want something to ruggedly drive around the city in, then there’s almost nothing better than a Jeep to fit the bill. Jeeps SUVs have been around since the 40s and the time of World War II when it stood out to soldiers and civilians as the undisputed leader in 4×4 technology. The Jeep brand has been thriving since then with six current models in the lineup, however, they are not without their flaws. Carcomplaints.com is a website where car owners can post complaints about nearly any car listed on there. As such, here are the Jeep models that received the most complaints.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the brand’s larger SUV that’s comfortable enough for five adults with all of the creatures comforts and more plush ride qualities than some of the other models in the lineup. It’s also one of the most popular platforms, so it’s no surprise that it has received the most complaints thus far.

Car complaints lists 2011 as the worst model year of the Grand Cherokee to buy as it was plagued with electrical issues. There are currently 221 complaints filed regarding a faulty Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), which causes the engine to stall and not turned on again, which is insanely dangerous. There are complaints about the same issues in the subsequent years, up to 2015, however, the number of complaints is far fewer compared to that in the 2011 model year.

Jeep Wrangler

Due to the sheer popularity of the Jeep Wrangler, we’re not too surprised that it has received 1,860 complaints on Carcomplaints.com. The site lists the 2012 model year as the worst year to get and “electrical problems” are the biggest issues. In case you couldn’t guess, the Wrangler was afflicted with TIPM issues as well, which seem to be heavily present in the 2007 and 2008 model years.

Another large issue that the Wrangler has been known for is the “death wobble,” which is when the SUV tends to shake uncontrollably at freeways speeds due to suspension and steering component issues. It’s a very serious issue, as you can imagine, and there’s even 81 logged complaints for the 2008 model year for this issue alone.

Jeep Cherokee

Coming in at a close third place, the Jeep Cherokee has 1,852 complaints currently filed, and Carcomplaints warns readers that the 2014 model year is the worst. For that model year alone, there are 666 complaints on file, mostly concerning the transmission not shifting properly. Jeep Cherokee owners cited issues like the transmission jerking and shuttering at highway speeds as well as hard shifts at low speeds. There are similar complaints for the 2015 model year, however, far fewer for the newer models.

Jeep Liberty

While the Jeep Liberty does have its fair share of complaints – 2,205 to be exact – its issue isn’t as grave as those found on its stablemates. Carcomplaints lists the 2006 model year as the worst with windows issues being the top pain point. In fact, out of the 673 total complaints listed for the 2006 model, 493 of them were regarding the window regulator breaking and in need of replacement. Fortunately, while this issue is a major nuisance, it pales in comparison to the potentially catastrophic issues on the other Jeeps.

Jeep Complaints

These are Jeep models with the most complaints, however, it makes sense that they would garner such attention considering they are the most popular and longest-lasting Jeeps in the model lineup. Therefore, there will always be complaints in accordance with the number of SUVs sold as the data is not represented in percentages, just a raw number of complaints.
