Pickup trucks are the most popular segment in the US. People love their trucks. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t complaining. There are a few popular truck models that have a larger number of complaints than the rest. The trucks on this list are the most complained about pickup trucks, according to CarComplaints.com.
GMC Sierra 1500
Out of the four we will touch on with this list, the GMC Sierra has the lowest count of complaints file on CarComplaints.com. There are a total of 1,102 complaints about this pickup truck. The worst model year––the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500––earned its unfortunate title due to a high number of complaints about problems with the lights.
The largest amount of complaints were filed for the 2014 model year. This was also for lights issues, but more pertaining to visibility than actual malfunction. The most reported problem overall is this issue with visibility for the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500.
Chevrolet Silverado
The Chevy Silverado has 3,001 complaints filed with CarComplaints.com. This Chevrolet pickup truck’s worst problems are with the 2008 model year. Complaints about the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado are largely for issues with the interior accessories. However, it looks like there are also major issues with oil consumption that are costly to repair.
The most complaints filed for one model year are about the 2004 Chevy Silverado. The most common pickup truck complaint––excessive oil consumption––is about the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. Overall, the Silverado is the third most complained about pickup truck.
On the complaints page for the Silverado 1500, the 2017 model year is listed as the worst. It’s plagued with transmission problems. The most complaints are for the 2014 model year which has issues with broken AC.
Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 is the most sold pickup, but it’s not the most complained about pickup truck. There are 5,331 complaints filed for the F-150. The worst model year, according to CarComplaints.com, is the 2012 model year Ford F-150 pickup truck because of engine problems. The most overall complaints are filed for the 2004 model year.
The 2004 F-150 doesn’t only have the most complaints filed. It also is the model year for the most complained about issue. The F-150 from 2004 has issues with the windows not rolling back up. This can be a frustrating problem––especially when it’s cold or wet outside.
Dodge Ram 1500
Although Ram has been its own entity for over a decade and Dodge Ram pickup trucks are a thing of the past, the Dodge Ram 1500 is still the most complained about pickup truck. The worst model year, according to CarComplaints.com, is the 2002 model year. As most people will end up buying a Ram Trucks Ram 1500, this knowledge isn’t quite as jarring as it could be. Still, it’s worth noting that these trucks have 6,187 complaints on file.
The 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 is also the one with the most complaints. The most reported problem is for a cracked dashboard. That issue is complained about for the 2001 model. The Ram Trucks have considerably fewer complaints. They’ve also been on the market a lot less time.
Still, the Ram Trucks have 989 complaints on file with CarComplaints.com. That means that, if added together, Dodge and Ram 1500 pickup trucks have 7,176 complaints. Dodge and Ram 1500 models are by far the most complained about pickup trucks. Even though the Ford F-150 is known to be the top seller.
