The numbers are in! Some of the figures are positive for the Ford F-150. However, new information proves that it’s not the most dependable truck from the past five years. The Toyota Tundra surges ahead as the most dependable truck.

The Toyota Tundra has been the most dependable truck for the past five years

Give it up for the Toyota Tundra, for leading the pack as the most dependable truck for the past five years. According to J.D.Power dependability studies, the Tundra was the most dependable option in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

However, the Ford F-150 tied with the Tundra with the same reliability ranking in 2020, so it can celebrate that win.

The study is based on feedback from actual owners after they’ve spent three years with their trucks. A survey is sent out to owners that cover 184 potentially problematic areas.

Everything from the paint, climate control system, electronics, driving performance, interior quality, seat comfort, cameras, and more are considered.

Because the survey is sent out to owners after three years, the dependable Tundra models that came in first place are from 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Keep that in mind if you’re considering a used full-size truck.

Overall, Toyota beasted this survey. It has seven first-place wins, one second-place score, and two vehicles came in third. Chevrolet is the second-best brand with six first-place wins, and Ford has two first-place wins.

But things have changed during the past five years. The Tundra was redesigned in 2022 and received two new engines, that might not be as reliable as the outgoing generation’s.

The 2024 Toyota Tundra currently has a reliability rating of 78 out of 100 from J.D.Power, which is average. But the 2021 model has an 86, which is great.

Scores between 70 and 80 are average, anything between 81 and 90 is above average, and scores between 91 and 100 are best.

The first Tundra from the current generation will turn three in 2025, so I can’t wait to see what owners have to say about it. It might not be the most dependable truck anymore.
