The Jeep Renegade has much to celebrate, including being a top safety pick, able to hang on the off-roading trails with larger vehicles, and more. However, no Jeep is perfect. The Jeep Renegade has its fair share of disappointments. 

Disappointing Jeep Renegade Features 

It’s So Small 

People already felt like the Jeep Compass was small enough, but then the Jeep Renegade came out as an even smaller option. 

Passengers often struggle with the lack of legroom in the backseat. The smaller backseat may have difficulties fitting a child seat as well. 

There isn’t much space between the driver seat and front passenger seat as well. Couples often bump elbows during trips, which can be frustrating. 

The Jeep Renegade isn’t built for tall people or bigger families. While it has five seats, it can only fit up to four people comfortably. 

There are only 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk, so you can’t pack much luggage. Also, when the seats are folded flat, there is only 50.8 cubic feet of cargo space. 

It Seems A Little Weak 

The most powerful engine that the Jeep Renegade has to offer is a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder option. 

It only pumps out 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Now, this amount of power doesn’t impact its off-roading abilities. The Jeep Renegade still has a 20:1 crawl ratio to glide over obstacles with. 

However, it does impact its performance on pavement. The Jeep Renegade can only tow up to 2,000 lb. This feels limiting for going camping and on other trips. 

Also, the Jeep Renegade doesn’t have the best acceleration. It takes the Renegade nine seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. 

For a spunky, fun, and sporty SUV, you would expect a little more pickup. However, the Renegade does still get reviews claiming that it’s a lot of fun to drive. 

It Has A Loud Interior 

Even though the Jeep Renegade is outfitted with an off-roading suspension that absorbs impacts and bumps incredibly well, the cab is still very noisy. 

You can expect a smooth ride in the Renegade, just not a quiet one. The cab is very loud at highway speeds, and bumps are also loud. 

You have to turn up the radio pretty loudly to hear podcasts or songs. Plus, it’s challenging to have a conversation across the front seats and back backseat. 

Should I Buy A Jeep Renegade?

Aside from being a little loud, smaller, and slower to accelerate, the Jeep Renegade is very competitive in its class. 

Unlike the RAV4 Hybrid and the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Renegade can go anywhere. It’s the best option for driving through snow and for off-roading. One of its most significant advantages is having four-wheel drive while it’s competitors are only offered in all-wheel drive. 

Plus, it’s fun to drive. The Jeep Renegade has excellent handling and a comfortable interior that incorporates quality materials and advanced tech. It can connect the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
