The Most Disappointing Thing About the Hummer EV Won’t Be Fixed Anytime Soon
Many electric vehicles are drawing the attention of buyers everywhere. One particular one that has people antsy to get their hands on is the Hummer EV. With four electric Hummers planned for release, people are anxiously waiting for them to come out.
GMC already released one for reservations, and it offered a timeline for when the other three are expected to roll off the production line. When will get to see the new Hummer versions, and what can we expect to pay for them? Let’s see what’s in store for the Hummer EVs and if people are happy with what we know about them so far.
Timeline of Hummer EV Edition 1 and the Hummer EV3X
The first Hummer EV scheduled to roll off the production line will come out in the fall of 2021. However, at this time, reservations are completely full for it. These electric models have a starting MSRP of $112,595.
This will get you three electric motors that produce a total of 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The battery has a range that’s rated at 350 miles and then some. As far as how powerful it is, the Hummer EV Edition 1 can go from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3 seconds.
The next scheduled release will be for the Hummer EV3X, which is slated to come out in the fall of 2022. To receive one of these for your garage, you can expect to pay just shy of $100,000.
For that price, the EV3X gets you 22-inch premium wheels and torque vectoring. It will also get you three motors that generate 800 hp and 9,500 lb-ft of torque. For estimated driving range, the EV3X is expected to go about 300 miles.
Timelines for the Hummer EV2X and the EV2
The last two Hummers scheduled to come out are the EV2X and the EV2. The EV2X will come out in the spring of 2023 with a starting price of almost $90,000.
It’s not expected to be as powerful as the EV Edition 1 and the EV3X, but it’ll still be strong with two motors producing 625 hp and 7,400 lb-ft of torque. GM plans to offer Adaptive Air Suspension and Adaptive Ride Control as well as its new CrabWalk mode. When it comes to distance, GMC rates the electric motors on the Hummer EV2X to go approximately 300 miles on a single charge.
The biggest disappointment comes when you see that the EV2 won’t be coming out until the spring of 2024. Plus, the batteries on this model are only expected to go 250 miles on a single charge.
What some Reddit users think of the new Hummer EV
Many Reddit users aren’t happy to see such a late release date since the EV2 is the cheaper model of the four GM plans to release. With the slowdown in production putting them back, people don’t want to see the least expensive version get pushed all the way back to 2024, which is over three years away.
In fact, one user calls it a “Bummer EV” instead of a Hummer EV. Others found it disappointing that GM chose to go with the most expensive one first. Some even believe that Hummer engineers added a lot to the Edition 1 package just to try to justify the expensive price tag.
A few users aren’t bothered by the price or the late release date. One feels that there will be other electric trucks and cars available between now and then to keep us distracted until 2024 rolls around. Another commenter reminded others that the regular Hummers weren’t cheap either, and GMC built the EV versions to be replicas of that.
We may have to wait a long time to either get our hands on one of these or watch others have fun with theirs, but it’s likely time will go faster than you’d expect. Before you know it, the EV2 will be on the showrooms or in people’s garages.
